That seriously could be the traffic here in Santo Domingo. It is crazy like that every day all day.

There are basically no traffic laws, unless the cops need some cash. Then they pull you over for anything and you give them 100-200 pesos, and they go on their way.

When I was in the Philippines in April, traffic patterns were, well there really wasn't much of a pattern. You just went were you wanted to go, without many lights or signals or rules of the road. Took forever to get anywhere. A 150 mile drive took 10 hours.

Mixed bag on safety though. They don't drive as fast as we do in the states, so the accidents aren't as damaging. On the other hand, they don't have as many safety regulations (for example no seat belt laws) so even accidents at lower speeds tend to cause more injuries.

Charlotte traffic isn't even as bad as Austin. Actually, not even close. At least traffic dies down in Charlotte at off hours. I've been driving downtown in Austin at like 9pm on a Wednesday and gotten stuck in a huge traffic jam.

Being from the mountains, I always got a good chuckle out of watching flatlanders freak the fug out when it snowed. Now that I live at the coast, when it snows the 1 or 2 times a year, it's fuging comical. I go out driving just to watch the comedy.

And by the way, Charlotte's traffic isnt that bad at all. I lived in L.A. for a few months, and in Orlando for a few years. They are much much worse.

After enduring DC traffic for the last 18 months, I will never complain about Charlotte traffic.

I am not even sure that Charlotte has the worst traffic in North Carolina. The Triangle area, especially on 85 at rush hour, is pretty bad at times.

Traffic around Charlotte is bad because NC cheaps out on everything - especially road construction.

But I agree - Charlotte's traffic is tame compared to cities even a quarter its size.
