beach...here's my first of the year. I went with the first 6 picks.

Probably will do one in March and one more before the draft...away we go:

bright colors and images included for your viewing pleasure

Pick 1:

Janoris Jenkins, CB, Alabama de Nord

Boomshakalaka we have a CB2. Gamble & Jenkins makes quite the duo...Hogan can be our nickle guy (I'd like to keep Butler but dunno will happen so I'm not done with this position yet)

Basically, I'm as heavy on improving the defensive line as many are here but I think the talent available in either Kirkpatrick & Jenkins is too appealing to pass up. But no D-line??? When all is said and done, I'm more comfortable with finally getting Gamble a decent crew to work with. I know we have trouble in the trenches but who says we need to address that in the first no matter what? We can still improve the d-line, it just depends on what route we take.

(ps...trade wise; hell, one could happen with our first round pick for someone wanting Tannehill badly enough. That puts us in great shape regardless of what happens)

btw, this kid learned his lesson about smoking too much green and I think has a bright future ahead.

Pick 2:

Vinny Curry, DE/OLB, Marshall

Defensive end you say? A lot of people seem to love Curry already but I'm doing this because it most importantly gives both CJ & Hardy some major help. He can drop back in coverage, rush the edge, force turnovers, and has a great motor. One of the things that stands out to me is his overall consistency and ability to make big plays.

at this point...it gives us CJ, Ron, Hardy, Curry, and then the young guys in Kearse, Shirley, McClain, and Fua to work with on the line. Again, just at this point.

Pick 3:

We may get antsy waiting a bit, so a trade could happen and I think will (which is why this is a slightly out of range pick) so anyhoo...

Keenan Robinson, OLB, Texas

Yep. I think we could trade up somehow and to get someone our FO falls in love with this draft season and Keenan Robinson seems like a viable prospect to suggest such a scenario. You get Davis insurance and a fantastic special teams player in addition. He has plenty of room to grow and has already developed into a fine defender. Also, we have a young coaching staff that can help him out even further along with leaders in Anderson, Davis, & Beason. Being a semi-Longhorn fan, I really like how Robinson plays. (This is my Curtis Brown pick of the year)

Pick 4:

Ryan Steed, CB, Furman

Woah! another CB?? Yep, imo this is too far to get someone to replace Shershartthebed Martin and I don't think any of the OLs fit us around this area. Steed is one of the major sleeper CBs in this draft and I think would be great for us. Yeah we have Hogan, but I don't know if Butler or Munn are actually coming back. As I mentioned, I would like to see Butler back but not Munn. Let's stock it up back there.

Steed is one of my favorite prospects and getting someone like him would benefit everyone (ST!!) and push more competition with whoever remains. Plus, we're playing Drew Brees and ATLs receivers so I'm fine going this route.

Pick 5:

Josh Oglesby, OT, Wisconsin

ncf_u_oglesby_mb_300.jpg

Basically, linemen from Wisconsin are taught well in college and produce in the league. They know how to grade and also concerning a KR/PR, its too far for a Joe Adams/Maze and we already have guys who I don't see getting cut in Pilares and Edwards just yet. I do like Brandon Mosley from Auburn but I think should pursue someone slightly less of a project in pass protection at tackle. Again, this guy knows how to groom running lanes but at the same time showed improvement throughout the season to help Russell Wilson...speaking of Wilson....

Pick 6:

Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin

Wilson-wows-in-debut-for-No-10-Wisconsin-JNBLSEK-x-large.jpg

Now that Chud is staying, I think we'll want to give him a project and Wilson or Chandler Harnisch seem to fit that scenario. This is late enough that its not blocking any potential wideout/PR like Maze or Adams...but practical given we have Derek Anderson as the backup (who I don't mind)...and that vinegar based cucumber who we will likely be phasing out

BTW...Free Agency: a freaking FS, DT (Garay please), & depth dag nabbit!

Lash away :sifone:

Actually this a really good mock. I love that you go defense for the most part. I especially like jenkins ( I assume we take him after we traded down) but after the combine he could warrant that 8/9 spot. Getting 2 young cbs is a must. I love Vinny Curry, the kid can just ball. Robinson is a solid pick as well. If u add in the 2 compensatories I think we can pick up a TJ graham type player late as a punt returner and then maybe and used the other one as leverage to trade up and get another player in the 3rd or 4th. BTW, Russel Wilson is a great QB. if we got him I could see Chud operating out of a 2 qb system or something crazy like that.

No DT's? Not even one? I don't know about this.. Other than that the other picks are fine with me. I think we could use a safety in the draft too.

Like I said, I want a DT as much as the next guy but I prefer going after an FS and DT in the FA if we don't get Brockers, Cox or Markelle Martin. Those are the only guys I'd really want.

For the life of me I can't remember what FA we lost last year that would award us any comp picks...

    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
    • Best part is if we draft him, we can also use him as our fourth and one QB sneaker
