1. No, it wouldn't. That's why I don't love the draft :)

2. Every player drafted doesn't have to be a superstar. Moose wasn't, but he was an integral part of our offense for many years. If Jeffery can be that, he's worth a 2nd round pick. I think there's room for Smitty, Lafell, Gettis and Jeffery. We need more than 3 NFL caliber WRs, and that's all we have right now in Smitty, Lafell and hopefully Gettis. And Smitty won't last forever, in 4 or 5 years when he's ready to hang it up we'd have 3 mid-career WRs who hopefully have improved and have become at least very good players, and we won't be stuck in the cycle we've been in for a while. 1 great WR (or maybe even none in the future scenario, who knows yet) and the rest are either too old or too young.

3. Disagree.

4. I don't feel strongly enough about Iloka to make bets, I don't even use an avatar for myself, not gonna add one because of a stupid bet I don't even care strongly about. I think there's a good chance he'd beat out Martin, but if we get him and he doesn't I'll just shrug my shoulders.

2. Still a wasted pick when at 33 you could use another defensive impact player.

summary...we basically end up with

CB kyle wilson in the first (first round CB w/ year of experience)

alshon jeffery WR

brandon thompson DT

cam johnson DE

george iloka (FS)

terrell manning (OLB)

joseph barksdale (OT drafted in 3rd round last year w/ year of experience under his belt)

not bad, imo.

not a bad draft,, I'd rather get someone else other than Alshon, but not bad

I fail to see how a potential solid #2 in the mold of Moose is a wasted #33. Armanti was a wasted #33, a good #2 wouldn't be.

Because we already have 2 potential #2 wr on the roster. But we can't stop a 3rd and 13 on defense. Maybe we could use the 33 pick on that problem 1st. then we can worry about a another #2 wr on candidate .

He got a #1 for next year, that's about all I see that I liked. He reached for Alshon, way too much was given for him. I much rather he wouldn't have done that. Given all the needs, pressing needs, of this team. WR was not in the top 3 needs.

I like the fact he got a CB. The FS was another reach imo.

The DE and OLB are meh..

If I had to grade this I'd give him a c+.

I agree a #2 WR isn't our top priority, but I think he'd be one of the BPA in that situation. Don't know if there's going to be any DT studs that'll immediately fix our problems available at #33. Zach Brown is about the only guy I see that was available that'd be a potential stud (outside of CBs, which was addressed with the Wilson acquisition).

I saw this on an inferior site and was one of the people that rated it an "F". James got caught up in overvaluing the local players and trying to be too clever with trades.

Imo, neither Jeffrey, nor Thompson, nor Iloka are better than the options we have on the team right now. None are sure-fire starters over the likes of LaFell, Gettis, the young guys plus Edwards at DT, or Martin. In Iloka's case it is because he would be a much better SS than FS.

Admittedly, I do not know much about Wilson. He may be very good. If not, then we may have come out of this proposed draft with no starter at all, and to me, that is a bad draft.

But picking Jeffery does hurt if you could have used that 33 pick on a better defensive player.

It does hurt if he doesn't see the field which is a good bet when going against Lafell and Gettis.

He doesn't need more Targets. He needs a defense that can get stops and a short field twice or 3 times game.

agreed with that, but the resulting draft did give us a much better defense that can do it.

truthfully with that 33rd pick i would rather use on someone like zach brown or whoever the best OLB was and then a pick later on a utility guy like rainey if he was available later or a WR/RS like devon wylie in the 5th, but overall it was a good draft and the team was made better. i like the DT and DE picks. i like the CB option it gave us.

that said, though, i don't think this makes it a bad draft. overall the team would be stronger.

DO NOT WANT Alshon

I do--in the ffth round maybe, and if he agrees to go on a year-round conditioning program. Not at 33.

I watched a seemingly meaningless interview on NEWS 14 with Hurney, and he keeps mentioning the BPA, even if its offense. He said f they have a few players on their board of equal value at different positions, he will try to trade down. I think he wants to recoup that 3rd rounder.

Now, I have to think of it this way, perhaps overanalyzing because this is not the time of year you take word at face value. If there is something to it, I see the following being (POSSIBLY) of equal value (Reiff, Martin, Kirkpatrick, Wright, Floyd, DeCastro, Ingram, and possibly Brockers.) All could be on the board at #8/9.

Liked some parts of the draft, and disliked others. The 1st round trade with the Jets seems a bit unrealistic, but I could see us trading back. I probably would have taken Quinton Coples at #9 instead of trading out of the 1st. Jeffery is too much of a risk to give up the Jets 2013 1st. Think we need a CB in the 2nd, but like Jerel Worthy more than Brandon Thompson. Probably would have taken a CB instead of Cam Johnson. Like the George Iloka pick, I hope we end up with him. If Chandler Jones DE/Syracuse is available when we pick, I'd take him.

This guy trades a lot.

3 question

Is Jeffreys a number #1 wr or a #2?

Do we need a WR or Defense more?

What makes him Better then Lafell and Gettis?

1. Yes, he is. Bigger, stronger, and can jump higher than both of those receivers... speed is not good if you can only use it running straight.

2. We need a WR and Defense, whats your point?

    • The thing I hate about strength of schedule is that NFL teams change so much over a year and past success or failure doesn't really dictate future success or failure
    • Considering you previously struggled to understand BTT despite it being explained in a video, write-up, and multiple replies, I get why this might be a little too complex for you. Happy to clarify again! Just let me know which part tripped you up this time. 😉
    • And, honestly, there's only so much you can attempt to do in the draft. And every draft pick is a roll of the dice. But that's where grabbing a ton of UDFAs, and targeting the best, makes a big difference. Sure, their individual chances of getting a hit here is less, but that shotgun pattern might just hit something.  Right now, we need bulk, partly to rebuild and partly to dilute the deep level of stank that has developed on this team in the last six years. If we're going to rebuild a culture built around culture, accountability and winning, then these UDFAs we bring in each season have to be the wash water that gets out that leftover dirt.  Canales seems to be a smart, culture-first, build up the good ones kind of guy. I like that and I hope he can keep it going here. But he was working against a locker room that had been taught to lose and taught to distrust or ignore coaches. He's got his work cut out for him, still. He does seem to have it moving in the right direction and that's something I was pretty amazed with by the end of last season.
