Shockey: Back to the Giants?

Free agent TE Jeremy Shockey would like to return to the Giants, according to the Daily News.Remember that Shockey complained about his blocking role, got into a shouting match with GM Jerry Reese and then demanded a trade out of New York. Although the Giants need some more tight end depth with Jake Ballard (knee) and Travis Beckum (knee) sidelined, it's hard to see a reunion here. Shockey can no longer separate at age 31 and the Giants signed talented Martellus Bennett on Wednesday

Hmmm...

Do the Giants even need another TE? I thought they already signed one this offseason?

Trying to drum up a market. RT @ProFootballTalk: Jeremy Shockey wants to return to the Giants http://t.co/t1eAVwkc

probably very true.

a good question is do we need another one? i'd love to have him back and as much as i like barney and his potential, shockey is more proven. it just depends on if the coaching staff feels good about barnidge and feel he's ready to take on a big role. it also depends on if they feel that cam doesn't need two big time vet TEs anymore like he would have as a rookie.

there's too many things to take into consideration besides the obvious $$ issue.

Do we 'need' him back? No, not really, but this is Cam's sophmore season, and I would still like for him to have a good safety valve as he is still learning the offense.

Olsen is good, but he didnt really step up and make huge plays as well as Shock did.

That's just not true. Olsen's production went down as the season wore on but he made more big plays than Shockey.

Shockey's leadership is great.

If he doesn't come back cheap, then we move on.

Shockey has never been known for his leadership...

Cam saying he likes Shockey's attitude has made some fans to create him into a player he never has been.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
