Training Camp Predictions

Recommended Posts

This may be a lame attempt at starting a somewhat interesting thread. Its a slow time as we approach training camp.

Here are my training camp predictions for 2012. Feel free to comment, complain, outright ridicule or post your own.

1. Year of the comeback: Beason looks great. Ron Edwards impresses. Davis looks good but is brought into the mix slowly. Gettis will be hit and miss

2. More of the same: Otah can't get it together. Again

3. Youth Movement: Keuchly, Silatolu and Norman will emerge as starters. Nortman and Adams will be fixtures on special teams. Alexander will be key rotational player on defense

4. Surprise Cut: Captain Munnerlyn gets his walking papers

5. Not so Surprise Cut: Armanti Edwards and Eric Norwood are let go

6. Solidifying positions: Hardy, McClain, Lafell step up and look very strong as starters.

7. Still need some work: Sherrod Martin, Byron Bell and Brandon Hogan will not have great camps but all hang onto roster spots.

Thats it. Tear it down

- D-Line does better than expected. Coach adds veteran depth as cuts are made and our new DT rotates in with our two sophmores and Edwards.

- LaFell solidifies the #2 WR. Gettis looks more like Drew Carter and gets bumped to #4. Adams fills the slot receiver. Chud creates more 4 WR (Smith, Gettis, Adams, Lafell) sets and it gives the D problems. That's too much speed to bring safeties in close which opens lanes for Cam.

- Jerry has to order more footballs as the team continues to toss them to fans after big plays. Love it!

- O-line is not as good as expected. Our new OG struggles (initially) and Bell / Otah compete for the RT position.

- Otah gets gimpy and is cut.

- Special teams are much improved
