Should we give up on a QB 25 games into his career?

It's all one players fault. It's not like the organization and staff is in disarray currently. People just need someone to blame and look to Cam because he's put front and center like a thanksgiving turkey.

Simple mindedness and the huddle, can't have one without the other.

So true.... I love it how the ineptitude of this franchise for the past five seasons or so is all of the sudden thrust on Cam's shoulder and it's all his fault. Cam is not perfect, but there are much bigger problems on this team that when addressed, and right coaching staff, head office, etc then I will worry about the QB. For years when it was bad like this there was still no QB on this team, and not even anyone close to someone who could possibly being great. I will take this new GM, new coaching staff, drafing, building, etc with Cam any day of the week. That sure beats when it was Carr, Moore, Clausen and where are we going to get a QB from.

Definetely take Cam over recent QB's in our past, but you have to admit, Cam's accuracy has been atrocious, he can't seem to scramble like last year, and he is just making poor decisions. Sophomore slump huh?

He is never going to be Brees......but the fact he has zero play action to work off of is a killer for him.

His rushing numbers outside of TDs (redzone attempts down) are nearly identical.

Running game slump is a much greater implosion factor for this O than QB play......

criticizing him and noticing areas that he has for growth or noticing mistakes that he made equals giving up on him?

lawdy lawdy lawdy.

Was merely pointing out the comical attention on Cam....and the often habit overlooking how comically bad our run game has become which IMO is the single reason for this mess.

the thing is no one has been overlooking all that stuff.

most people notice it's a clusterf*ck. they just also acknowledge that cam is a huge part of it even tho a lot of it is beyond his control. there's just some things that are within his control that he's screwing up on.

people notice and talk about all these things but those people who can't handle ANY criticism of cam only focus on the negative cam remarks and overlook that he's mentioned among them all.

for example that thread i made yesterday saying that the OL sucks, chud sucks, and cam sucks had a clown or two asking why i wasn't criticizing the OL or the coaching. it was right there in the title and the OP.

people (including yourself) are just too sensitive about cam.

Cam has TONS of flaws.....

However, I understand he is suppose to have them.

and no, locally nor nationally, is the joke that is our run game getting the attention it deserves. Nor coaches. Carolina did something that hasn't been done in NFL history before....and they are the least productive in the game. THAT deserves way more attention than it is getting. How Rivera is getting off the hook is mind blowing. One comment here or there doesn't do it justice.....and it generally is a side comment when discussing Newton.

If that's what everyone was doing you'd have a point. Have you completely missed all the "trade him" talk?

I guess it can be called a slump based on the numbers, though not by much.

Based on the eye test, I think he is the same Cam with less consistency on the deep ball. To me, it appears he's trying to do too much. As if he feels he has to win the game himself. And most games he does. The lack of a run game puts too much pressure on our young QB.

I just can't understand how we've forgotten how to run, when that's all we've done well for the last decade. My only conclusion is a coaching philosophy that doesn't fit the personnel on the team.

With the emergence of our defense, we don't need to ask Cam to carry the offense on his own. Last year was different - he needed to score 40 points a game to win. This year, 24 points would win most games this year - that's 6 points a quarter. One TD or 2 FGs a quarter would do it. We need to play to control field position and not try to force the issue with feast or famine plays.

No but we need to see improvement in year 3. If you look at the stars many of them began "breaking out" in full year 2. Those that didnt had it rolling by year 3 (even brees from a statistical perspective). So if cam still looks like this at this tome next year I will get worried that we dont have our guy.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
