Why I would not worry about Barner's ball security

The fact that he changed his running style is huge. It means that he works on his weaknesses and is coachable.

The first fumble was due to a hit from behind.  I am willing to bet that has never happened to him.

The second fumble was based on eagerness; he reached for the ball-Clausen was a bit slow getting it to him.

I did not see a ball-carrying issue, such as holding the ball away from to body to run.

By the way--this is unrelated---I am watching the end of the Jags / Phins game, waiting for NFL Network's 10 AM presentation of Panther/Bears,  and I have to say that the Jags not only have the worst team in the NFL, they have the UGLIEST uniforms I have ever seen.

Uhhhh I think he's been hit from behind before. The first one was inexcusable. The defender got a hand on the ball, but did not really hit it with much force. I would say it was a combination of nerves and sloppiness, though I'm not sure he's used to running between the tackles so much (at Oregon he bounced most of his runs outside it seemed).

That was my suprise with the first fumble as it was just a defender reaching for it with little force(in NFL terms) and popped it out.)

I am not worried unless we see it happen again...rookie mistakes and first game action is normal and the Bears are exceptional at stripping the ball.

He showed enough playmaking ability to see he will be dangerous and can contribute with limited touches.

Why I'm not worried...

One, he's a rookie who's adjusting to the level of competition and probably had rookie nerves in his first pro game.

Two, he did fine after that first strip, and fumble number two looked to be on Clausen.

Three...

    • Got to give some credit to the coaching staff on these. You can grab top talents but without good coaching, they just fizzle out. We've seen that a lot around here.
    • Oh, no TV for tonight's game unless you have the NHL Network, I believe. I could be wrong, hopefully?
    • Early returns are great and exciting but also worth noting that Gettleman had a few drafts that looked incredible early on and wound up mostly sucking (2014 mainly). Also PFF; grain of salt, etc.    I'm completely sold on Tet being a stud, knocked a high pick out of the park like we needed to and always should. Nearly sold on Scourton. Not sold on Princely but he had flashes. Not sold on Etienne as more than a 3rd stringer and special teamer, but that's not terrible for his draft position. Big fan of Ransom and think he'll be a starter.  Cam Jackson : IDK, I see limited upside but we didn't see much of him Evans was a nice find for draft position and he had a great rookie year for a late round rookie TE with plenty of veteran competition. Not sure about his upside though, seems like best case is a long term #2/3 TE, which isn't bad. Jimmy Horn, personally I didn't see a damn thing from him that impressed me all year. And he got a lot of opportunities. Pulling for the kid, but not convinced he's an NFLer.   UDFA: Fitzgerald was an amazing find
