When can we blame Cam?

I'm actually with the OP on this one. I'm not going to blame the entire game on Cam (obviously), but he missed some opportunities.

There were multiple times when we had guys open down the field and Cam opted for the safer throw. Stuff you can only really see when you're at the game. So, blame Shula all you want for his "conservative" offense, but if Cam hits one of those deeps throws suddenly Shula is a genius.

The only deep throw Cam missed was the one to LaFell. olsen dropped one placed beautifully between two DBs.

anything any one player on offense did wrong is a footnote to deangelo's fumble.

that. lost. the. game.  period, over.  quit trying to make this about the quarterback.

I'm not "making this about the quarterback," just pointing out that he missed some chances to break the game open. How about you stop making this game about one play?

There were multiple times when we had guys open down the field and Cam uncharacteristically opted for the safer throw. I'm talking about guys streaking down the field - one play comes to mind where Ginn got behind the defense. Stuff you can only really see when you're at the game. So, blame Shula all you want for his "conservative" offense, but if Cam hits one of those deep throws suddenly Shula is a genius.

Like the one Olsen dropped near the end zone?

So now where going to blame Cam for being patient and taking what the defense gives (something that many hear have allegedly pleaded for), after D'Angelo fumbles on the 8 yard line, pissing away an almost certain Panther victory?

If the Panthers would have won, many here would be saying, "hey, I like how he won the game, taking what the defense gave him".

Cam is a game manager, with a rocket arm at his best he is Kerry Collins who can run....maybe Steve McNair. Take your homer glasses off people, decent thread Chuck.

It is late and I am tired...I assume this is just great sarcasm.

I am probably going to get a good amount of bashing with this post and some may even go as far as to say that I don't deserve a QB like Cam. But, my question is this:

When can we start putting the blame on Cam for holding our offense back? Putting the blame on Cam rather than on the lack of Oline, WRs, running game, and play calling? This is a serious question.

Some guys just have that clutch-ness in them, and in my honest opinion I just don't see it in Cam as of right now. We saw it in Wilson today. The man was pressured all day long and was hit on many different occasions. Wilson still managed to find the way to lead his team in a comeback victory against us in the 4th quarter.

We can defend Cam in every way possible even to the max that he's not Peyton Manning. But nor is Russell, Kaep, or RG3 a Peyton Manning. Though, these guys are able to pick apart defenses when the time is there for the taking. Other than Cam’s two first rookie games vs. Arizona and Green Bay, I have not seen Cam’s ability to pick defenses apart.

In my honest opinion, Cam's lack of clutch-ness and ability to pick apart defenses is what's holding this team back. The game is win and loss by the Quarterback. That's how you differentiate the great from the good, and the good from the bad.

Cam Newton isnt going to Pick a defense apart like Manning EVAR!! it isnt his game and never has, his main game is to spread the field and scamble the defense and force a mistake, his skills would do better to be used more like a Big Ben then a Peyton Manning, and Big Ben has more Super Bowl rings, both can work but one is a Hammer and the other is a Surgical knife.

I think the change in offensive philosiphy is a step in the right direction, but it may have been too big of a step, think of it as a balance between the two not a pure one of the other.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
