Is Giants game Rivera's last stand?

How quickly you guys forget Hurney.

While I disagree with those that say JR doesn't care about winning and won't do it, Hurney isn't a good example. IIRC, he wasn't under contract and was owed nothing. However, if JR fires Rivera and promotes Shula or McD to interim HC, it doesn't cost him any more.

We have one last hope for this season. It's name is Dave Gettleman. He needs to crash a team meeting, with Jerry Richardson by his side, and take the mic from Ron.

"Listen here you motherfugers. We are going to win. Now. Get with it or get bent. If we don't win the Division this year every coach is fired and I'm gonna shake this roster harder than a stripper's ass at the club on Tryon."

"PS I still refuse to sign any upgrades to the worst o-lineman in Panthers history, so I'm gonna make all these demands that you win while not helping you out at all."

This fuger is like bizarro world Wayne Fontes (only Fontes won some games). Seems like Rivera has 9 lives, he is rasputin in a coach form. Can't get rid of him. he's a cavity that is hard to extract. He will lose the Giants game and live on... to blow yet another couple close games before he finally gets out of here in January 2014 (maybe)

This is such a piss poor excuse. Are you that naive?

That is exactly why Richardson kept him here for one more season. We already knew Rivera wasn't HC material, but instead of moving on and getting it over with right there and then, Jerry was worried about his bottom line.

So that ladies and gentlemen, is why this franchise has only had four winning seasons.

Evidence? Except for a picture of a half asses pie chart there is none. Speculation but no evidence to prove otherwise.

I think Getts may have seen the writing on the wall, yet is letting the Hurney magic wear off. He's waiting for contracts to expire or at least dwindle into their remaining years, and we get another high draft pick, Getts gets his coach, and all is well.

Just my idea of a decent plan of action versus most of the knee jerk crap I read here.

Last stand, I don't think so. A chance to turn a corner, absolutely.

Fact is, there are two likely options and one outside shot at becoming the HC if Rivera is let go.  Shula, McDermott, and on the outside Jim Skipper.  Honestly, I'd feel better if Skipper took the reins if we're talking about letting Rivera walk.  Even then, those three don't mean things will get better.  They will probably get worse.

As it's been documented, Rivera still has the locker room, his players still play hard and don't quit.  If they do against the Giants, then we'll see Rivera booted.  Until they give up, he's going to finish the season.  You fire him while the players are still buying into him, then watch the team completely fall apart.  You've got to look at the bigger picture.

I'd love to see us beat the Giants if only for some positive energy around the team.  We're in trouble, our QB isn't look too great, our WRs aside from Olsen, Smitty, and sometimes Ginn are lackluster, our defensive backfield is in worse shape than wet tissue paper...  Now you never know, this is the NFL, guys can step up.  Or as the Panthers have done historically, we will continue to melt in ever more painful losses until we become delirious and numb to the pain.

We did it with John Fox, and now we've done it with Ron RIvera. Have you already forgotten 2010?

Without a doubt Rivera should be fired if the Panthers lose this week against the Giants.  The timing would also work out since they will have a bye week and give whomever comes in an extra week to prepare.

The Panthers Organization, including Rivera, knew they needed to start this season fast or at least better than the past couple of years.  An 0-3 start would be a complete failure based on that goal.
