I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here or if he is even eligible to coach yet (I tried to google this but found nothing, and I know he isn't technically retired yet), but what about bringing in Jake Delhomme as next years OC. HEAR ME OUT!

 

1) HE HAS THE FIRE!

There is not a single TRUE Panthers fan that can say Jake didn't know how to fire this team up. And with so many guys still on the team today he played with, they would have total respect for him. I don't think Shula have either of these things going for him.

 

2) HE IS A LEADER OF MEN
I personally think Jake was the best leader of men this franchise has ever had. I will never forget being in the stands during the Bears game (2008) where he got hit late, jumped up, and pounded his chest while screaming to the point we could hear him in the nosebleeds. After that, the WHOLE TEAM got behind him. 

 

3) HE KNOWS HOW TO ADJUST

I miss the days where we saw our QB screaming audibles from under center. Delhomme had a good eye for what the other team was doing, and adjusted quickly. Today, this team.... Just doesn't adjust at all.

 

4) HE KNOWS THE GAME OF FOOTBALL

He made not be an X's and O's evil genius, but he knows the game. #17 got to the point where he was basically running the Offense by himself from the line. How many games did we go to the hurry up in the last few minutes with Jake calling every play. I can remember him not even looking to the sideline for a whole drive, just running it himself.

 

Which brings me to my final point, which IMO is the biggest trait of them all...

 

5) HE KNOWS HOW TO FINISH GAMES

How may times did he lead us to a 4th quarter comeback? How many last second drives to win? I believe this can be taught to Cam & Co.. 

 

The only reason I bring this up is because I have a gut feeling our new HC will (AGAIN) be a D-minded kinda guy. Therefore, we need an OC who the Head Coach can truth to call the plays, make adjustments, and fire up this team. J-A-K-E!

 

(Please don't make this a thread for bashing Delhomme. We all know about the Playoff game VS Arizona. We all know he had his ups-and-downs. This is strictly about him possible becoming our next OC. I know it's hard, but please stay on topic.)

Nope.

 

Offensive Coordinators need to be great at teaching and strategy.

 

Nothing in Delhomme's past suggests he has either of these skills.

 

You don't go from 0 coaching experience to an OC.

 

Maybe a newby coach is what we need. Surly you of all people Zod, can't be saying Shula is a better option at this point.

 

Has Jake even expressed an interest in coaching?  If he has I think a QB coach would be more suitable for him first.

 

First point, I've heard it in an interview before that he could see himself in a coaching position. Second part, I agree. But with the purge eminent it maybe difficult for THIS front office to find a "great" OC, DC, AND HC in the offseason. May have to make due with someone who doesn't have the experience but have the intangibles we need.

It's so crazy that it just might work!!!!!

I thought I'd throw you a bone before everyone else comes in here and bashes you without mercy.

 

I figure a fresh take couldn't hurt. Kinda getting sick of the "Trade Cam", Trade for Nicks", or "Hire a College Coach" threads. Plus, it doesn't matter what you post on the Huddle these days, You're going to get bashed endlessly. A losing season will do that to Panther Fans.

I like the fact you are thinking outside of the box.

 

Jake is a great guy and I will remember him fondly for the rest of my days.  But seriously, he is a horse farmer from Louisiana.  He has about as much credibility to run an offense from the sidelines as a peanut farmer has to run the country from the White House.

Honestly nothing about that sounds like a good idea to me.

 

I get the idea behind fresh blood and a fiery coach but what about Delhomme makes you think he would be a good OC?  We know he could get guys motivated on the field but that's about it.  He's got no experience / work history designing a gameplan or calling plays.  No experience / work history managing other players.

 

And let's hot forget that when he was here we bitched about him locking in on Smitty all the time - what's to say he doesn't carry the same mentality as a playcaller?

 

He may yet one day coach something in this league but his first job as an OC?  Nah.

      I'm honestly looking beyond DC at this point. He's too green and is making too many simple mistakes. I think he's gone after next year. I think the intention in LV was to use Mayer and Bowers similar to Gronk/Hernandez in NE. That's never really struck me as Carroll's MO though after watching him for years out here in Seattle.  He's talented enough and I think he just got lost behind the phenom that is Bowers because he couldn't develop in Carroll's system. I'm surprised Bowers is used as much as he is, though they really don't have anyone else. TE's don't really exist as focus receivers in Carroll's offense. I live in the PNW so I've been subjected to a lot of Seahawks football.  Coaches other utilize their TEs. We should too. Tremble is OK, but he's always been a project as a receiver. Again, all this is of we could get him at the right price. I wouldn't pay a lot because we need to spend on defense.

      David. Hey, money talks.....it has been acknowledged that Tepper isn't shy on spending. He's had the NFL equivalents of used car salesman after used car salesman line up to grift him of a big chunk. Canales is one of them.  Until that changes, it's gonna be tough to build anything to last.

      Well it's who they tied themselves to for at least another year but i agree. They will be lucky to find a useful contributor but until I see the DC situation change I am presuming it's SSDD. Well it sounds like maybe in 2027.
