Carolina Panthers one of NFL's best after beating 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers pride themselves on smart, physical, smash-mouth football. The Carolina Panthers are better at that style of play.

Rosenthall has really been drinking the coolaid and he was the only one that picked us to win this game among his colleagues

He's not the only one

When was the last time you saw the 49ers so thoroughly whipped at the line of scrimmage? Not even theIndianapolis Colts did that when they came in and won by 20 at Candlestick.

The Panthers have the best front four in football, an ace middle linebacker and a secondary of outcasts who have come together in stunning fashion. That might remain a questionable unit for some, but Mike Mitchell, Quentin Mikell and Drayton Florence have come off the street to give this group an identity: they'll reroute you, use every inch of the fave-yard chuck zone and, if you get the ball thrown your way, better hope your chin strap is buckled.

This formula, along with a developing run game, the calm and collected Cam Newton (who rallied from a tough start and several drops to turn in another pro's pro game) and just enough playmakers make this a legit contender. Throw in some quality special teams, and we're talking about a sleeper Super Bowl club.

The NFC has been turned on its head a bit, and don't be surprised if the Panthers are in this thing until the end

The Glaring part of this game to me was that we were down 9-0 and what did the Panthers do? we say: fug this poo we're in it to win it! the Defense shuts the 49'ers down COMPLETELY and we Score 10 unanswered points in a game where points were at a premium. in a game like this one with two of the best Defenses in the NFL to go from down 9 to win is like being down 21 points in a shootout and scoring 28, this was a massive beat down from there out, a reason to be proud as a fan tonight!

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
