I'll say it again.....Keenan Allen

63 Receptions 931 yards and 7 touchdowns, That's better than any WR on our roster. You can say he's played one more game, but you have to remind yourself he didn't play a lot at the beginning of the year.

Ron Rivera attended his pro day, Our WR coach threw to him!!!, He was in our own back yard. How could we miss so badly. He was a steal in the 3rd round. I would have taken him second over KK.

And yes this is very relevant given how much we complain about WRs here. He was right there begging us to take him and we passed. Thank god the answer was on the roster......until they got cut: Gettis and AE. O and Mr. two catch Hixon.

Early morning rant over

To Gettleman, I don't know that it mattered who was sitting there with that 2nd round pick... unless his name was Jerry Rice, he wasn't going to take him over KK. Gettleman loves the trenches and felt that had to be addressed immediately, and reinforce it. So he took two big guys back to back, and look at the difference they have made.

Now, our long neglected interior line is in great shape for years to come, so this draft, if he ignores WR, then you'll have reason to complain.

You really think he would have half those stats in this offense?

Phillip Rivers throws him open with anticipation bc of Allens good route running. Cam still needs work on that part.

He is good. I was one who was put off by his injury and workout.

If anything Kenny Stills was there in the 4th, and yes he was a known product too.

I think KK gets taken over Allen still in a redraft by the Panthers...Stills over Kugbilla? Gotta be Stills.

I think Alshon would have been the better receiver for Cam...o well we all can dream I guess.

our WR are not the problem, in fact they are playing good. the reason our numbers are not high is we are spreading the ball around perfectly. That is why it become hard for the opposing defense to know what is coming. If we had him, here he would have less yard then smith olsen and lafell. those guys are doing a good job. Also our scheme is not the old chud scheme of chucking it downfeild either so with that and the almost even spread of the ball no one has great numbers.  We are getting wins we just dont have the explosive system to highlight them. Now we do need to draft a legit number 1 cause smitty is not as good as he once was. but even in this system dont expect great numbers from any new wr. untill we have the OL to let cam get more time for downfeild attacks we will continue to run the dink and dunk with heavy run game.

I would not swap Star or Short for Keenan Allen. We did not have a third rounder.   His speed was suspect, which is why he dropped on many boards.  He is benefiting from a lack of other receivers.  However, he is a steal for a third rounder.

Nothing against him--he is good.  But we made the commitment to solidify our defense.  We did that.  Are you suggesting that we pass on Short?  I think, in a year or 2, Short will be getting 6-8 sacks a year from the DT spot.

This year's draft is better at WR.  I expect a WR, CB, or OT to be our first pick.  We will bring in help at WR.  (I am not as certain as most of you that we re-sign Brandon Lafell)

    • Why do you say that. What leads you to think that we, as supporters, think his ceiling is 10-12. That's a ridiculous assumption on your part. The Seahawks won the SB with Darnold passing for 25 TD's, 14 Ints with a 99.1 rating for the season.  The Panthers with Young were at 23 TD's, 11 Ints and a 78.8 rating for the season. Not that far off. The problem with all the Young discourse around here is the assumption that the QB is the sole determining factor for a teams success. That just isn't true and it's certainly not how Morgan and Tilis are building the Panthers.
    • Do we pay based on how many wins or how many games Bryce led us to wins? We've spent quite a bit on defense this year and hopefully they're much improved. If the Panthers do get to 10 wins, but Bryce has another year like last year where he showed up big in a couple, was present in a few, and forgettable in most, do we still pay him 50m per year?  I keep bringing it up because I think it's relevant, but Bryce was outplayed by a 6m per year backup last year. I don't see how it's possible to pay a top tier QB contract to someone who's putting up backup QB production.
    • I understand tempering expectations, but there are some issues with his points. Walker was a 3 year starter, but Green Bay let him walk and no other team was quick to snatch him up. That says something. Freeling will compete to start. With Hunter, we rotate our linemen and even 5th round pick Cam Jackson played some meaningful snaps last year. Both Brown III and Wharton have underwhelmed since we picked them up. Hunter is a run plugger that we have needed. Hunter will play early, even if he isn't the "starter." Brazzell was described as one of Canales' favorite prospects in the draft and he has a speed element we have been missing. I think Canales is going to have plays drawn up with Brazzell on the field just out of pure excitement. It will be up to Brazzell to prove he can handle it, though. If he can, he will play. As far as our secondary picks, yeah they have to earn their stripes and Evero tends to lean on veterans. So they might take time, but if they can show they can play, they will see the field. Smith-Wade and Ransom did. Sam Hecht simply has to show he can handle the mental side of the NFL game. If he can, he is in a direct competition with Fortner, who's also relatively young, but also on his 3rd NFL team and doesn't have the power profile of Hecht.  I can appreciate that Gantt wants to pour cold water on what was perceived as an impactful draft, but facts are facts.
