1st Round TE?

Rules&Regulations

Recommended Posts

I agree that Ebron is a TE, but I disagree on the relative importance of 40 times. Steve Smith had a mediocre 40 time in pre-draft combines. But he was a lot faster than anyone else in pads and gear. Game speed is much more important than controlled measures in artificial environments.

I really want a CB, I almost always do, and obviously we need a WR, but the more I think about it, the more I think OT is the way to go.  Of course what we get in FA will definitely determine which is the best route.  If we go with any other position then it better be a guy who is so incredibly the BPA that we had no choice but to take him.

Ebron is good, but I think Amaro and ASJ are just as good and we wouldn't need to trade up for them.  Ebron is the shortest of the 3 and possibly the slowest of the 3.  Amaro and ASJ will create more mismatches since they are both 6'6" like Graham and Gronk, vs. Ebron's 6'4".  I have no problem drafting one of the 3 TEs, as long as guys like Robinson, Benjamin, Matthews are gone at WR.  It would be a borderline disaster to not give Cam at least two weapons this offseason via the draft and FA with his looming contract on the horizon.

Steve Smith was drafted in the 3rd round.

Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th rd...how many other elite QB's are? I don't think we can afford to wait to til the 3rd or 4th rd and pray we draft a Keenan Allen or Brandon Marshall that late. The only way I wouldn't draft a WR in the 1st is if an elite OT somehow slides that far. Then I would take a WR in the 2nd and maybe 3rd too. Cam has progressed as far as he can with the Wr's we have. He needs much better WR's to reach his full potential, JMO

ASJ is the slowest of the 3. Ebron and Amaro are very close in speed. ASJ's speed is what concerns me about him. Ebron is an inch taller than Vernon Davis, not sure how him being 6'4" is an issue.

A guy we forsure won't have to trade up for is Colt Lyerla, but we all know this franchise history with guys with off field problems.

I was thinking of the upcoming draft and our needs. I'd list our top needs as OT, WR, CB, with OT and WR kinda 1a and 1b. Now, assuming we don't trade up and are drafting near the bottom of the 1st round, the likelihood of one of the top LT or WR prospects being available for us aren't that great. We could likely get a good RT prospec there, but we could just as easily upgrade over Bell in the second or third, and CB prospects are so hit or miss seemingly no matter where you draft them.

So why not go for a TE? Chances are that one of the 3 first round TEs will be available, and being able to run more 2 TE sets will help both our passing and blocking. I think Amaro or Ebron could be great fits, and word was that we had our eye on one of the TEs last year before star fell in our laps.

What say you?

I disagree, with the need for QB's and Depth at WR & OL we will likely have a chance to draft a top rated tackle.

1st round - Cyrus Kounadjio

                - Antionio Rchiradson

                - La'el collins

Nicks will be a panther in my opinion, rotoworld reporting giants won't bring him back, I'm ok with that but only If he's offered an incentive based contract so he balls from day one! Nobody will pay him after two poor season beat he will get is a homecoming deal worth $2-4mill.

Ginn will be resigned you can be assured of that an smitty will go one more year so with

Mcnutt and king as depth the need for a wideout will be to fill lafells boots obviously, also I noticed the eight guys signed to futures contracts 5 were Oline men?, this tells me we won't be taking two in the draft just my guess especially with a healthy kugbila and amini coming back.

This allows us to explore another tight end and address the dbs which is the weak link of the defence.

This year we have all our picks with beasons trade allowing a sixth, I'd try to trade up our first rounder 28th for a top ten pick offering a fourth or third perhaps and then go Watkins If he isn't a top 5! Then with nicks in as a FA , CAM has weapons at last! Second is go Oline maybe hurst from unc and then go dbs and another TE in the draft
