2014 WR Free Agents

We need one of those guys who excels at getting open in the middle of the field. Doesn't have to be 6'4" or run a 4.4, just a guy who understands getting open and can do it regularly. Somebody who can bail out Cam consistently when nothing down field is available, even if its just 8-10 yards completions. Olsen has kind of evolved into that guy but if we could get a WR who might make someone miss occasionally it might add another element to the offense. We will also need to have an offensive philosophy that allows us to utilize such an individual

Id like to think by addressing the WR issue that would allow Smitty to fill the role you're talking about.

Andre could be exactly what Boldin is to Kap to Cam.

AJ is a year younger than Boldin. Draft two receivers still though, let them learn from Johnson and Smitty and have a solid rotation going.

If you would have Asked me this question last week I would have said no, have to get younger. But Johnson still has "it" like Boldin. This would also allow Smitty to work the slot. Plus Johnson is a guy like Smitty that Cam could trust from day 1

Exactly. I would get Andre for exactly the reason you said. He would produce from day one and be trusted. I would then go draft a WR in the second or the third round.

But he has to be big and physical. Let's be honest Cam LOVES to throw high.

None of those guys are worth giving a lot of money too. The only free agent receiver that has made an impact recently or lived up to his contract  is Vincent Jackson. All the top receivers in the league right now have 2 or 3 years experience. We need to stop beating around the bush and just draft our guys. I would rather go O line in FA anyway, that list is better.

I agree that he could be deadly in that role for a couple more seasons.  His years of consistently stretching the defense are coming to an end but putting him in the slot and letting him kind of freelance his way open based on what the defense is giving him could be pretty effective, IMO.  Only, however if we have somebody on the outside that must be respected or moving him inside will be a big waste of time.  There is nobody currently on the roster who does that.

Someone who gets open. If Nicks can be grabbed at a decent price I'm all for it. Please to all who constantly rag on "bad attitudes" some of you all wanted to throw Mitchell off of a bridge after he had his way with Cam last season.

Now he's one of our more beloved players and had a an amazing year. Sometimes a change of scenery will do a man good.

This team CANNOT afford to go into another year with Smith as our offensive focal point. Lafell can go too. Ginn has multiple uses and catches nearly everything thrown at him.

    • you could even divide it up by division and conference with a similar seeding to the actual playoffs, culminating in it’s own Super Bowl.
    • Regression to the mean causes Tepper to give up on Bryce.  Six wins and we get the number seven draft pick and take Brendan Sorsby Texas Tech QB.
    • The pro bowl should be brought back, it should be in Honolulu with proper marketing and eyes on it, it should be the nfl subsidizing a week long vacation for guys with their families-with that the one big change to make is to get rid of the fan voting. Have each send a collection of five or six guys they deemed their best and if the rosters get a little wonky personnel-wise, that’s okay. That’s part of the fun. short of that, the only other thing I could recommend is having a similar set-up-no fan voting, teams selecting their best players, and sending them to compete against the chosen players from 31 other teams in real Olympic level sporting completions to see who comes out on top.   seeing the panthers delegates beat the disgusting saints delegates up for the Gold in the rowing competition or the 4x100 relay would actually feed into the competitive nature of fans and give them something to root for. you could even have under armour sell the logo cladded up team gear that the pros wear in these games for money, this stuff basically writes itself if the nfl wasn’t trying to use this event help sell the idea that no defense and lots of passing is a GOOD THING and you LOVE THIS and THE GAMES SHOULD BE MORE LIKE THIS.
