What will Cam do

Here's the good news Cam is on track to make about 8M this year, during cap hell. That, with an inflation increase yearly on the salary cap of another 3M. There is 12M that we can already account for without any sacrifice starting next year. 12+15+18+21+24= 90M for 5 years, should be a workable point for both parties. I know I generalized A LOT but I'm proving we can give this guy what he wants. Most of those years will be after we are out of cap hell so it is doable without sacrificing much of the overall team talent. That being said Cam isn't going anywhere.

You do realize that the exclusive Franchise Tag means you are required to pay that player the average of the top 5 players in the league at that position.

In other words, placing the exclusive Franchise Tag on Cam would mean you would easily be paying him $20 million plus that year.  And (according to you) the year after that.

So why wouldn't you just sign him long term at $20 million instead of exclusive Franchising him at more than $20 million for two years and then letting him walk?

In other words, the team doesn't have as much leverage as you seem to think.  Actually, as one of the most exciting players in the league (and only getting better), a franchise QB, and the face of the franchise, Cam has more leverage than the team IMO.

Franchise tag deals are just 1 year deals. Players want a long term deal instead of a 1 year deal where a potential injury is going to cost them millions of dollars.

And that's AFTER 2 more years of a rookie deal that's paying him around 5 mil a year?

Think about it...

5 + 5 + 20 + 20 = 50

That's 12.5 m a year over 4 years.  Even if the tag price went up a few mil we are still talking 15 mil a year, maybe less.

You think he wants a new deal now or in 4 years?

Or is 12.5 mil a year for his NEXT four years a good deal for him?

Year 5 of his rookie deal is an option and it's worth roughly 15 million, so you'd be paying him 7 million in 2014, 15 million in 2015, 20+ million in 2016, 20+ million in 2017. That's over 15 million a season counting the final regular year of his rookie deal. His new deal will be worth more then that guaranteed, because that's the baseline of his worth if Carolina wants to keep him and the cheapest they can do it at.

25-24 as a starter.  Not worth top tier money.  Not even close.

Yeah....because he plays ALL 21 POSITIONS ON THE FIELD (33 if you count special teams).  He does right?  Until Cam gets cloned 32 times that argument is beyond....beyond stupid.  Did you even watch football this season to see how a "top tier" QB like Matt Ryan does without proper support?  The kind of support that Cam has just started to get (and only really on defense) .  Jesus.....how do people like you even manage to get breathing right?

Yep, I said two posts later that I hit the 6 years rather than 5.  My math was for 15Million per year.

Well...if you are going to change the rules...then my post is pretty much redundant. Thanks man.

It all comes down to Cam, imo. I think because of his endorsements he is able to take a little less money. Will he? That is the question? I hope he would, for the teams sake. But will he?

I still think Cam will take less for more pieces. We'll see though

That is the dream. Be a team player Cam. For all of us. Yeah, peer pressure. That should work.
