Ravens sign Steve Smith

Good for him... His family can stay put and we can root for him being in the AFC. The one game we play them I'd like for him to go off while we still win. It's going to be weird seeing him in a different jersey... Will he still be 89?

Some contracts have a clause in them that relieves the cutting team of the guaranteed $$ IF a new team signs them to a deal.  For example, if we owe him $4m in dead money for 2014 and he signs a deal with Baltimore that gives him $3 million for 2014, we only owe $1m.

I have not heard this from anyone.  I do not think Santa Hurney would have included this clause (ha-pun), but we can hope.

It's not like Ozzie Newsome is a 2x Super Bowl winning GM or anything.

Ozzie did good signing him at that price! Wished we had that deal, but we didn't so oh well.

And no, players can't sign away guaranteed money back over to the team. You imagine how corrupt the salary cap game would become

    • After last season, it was the same question. And the answer most people came to was "If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's gone." He made the playoffs. No matter how it was done, we made it to the playoffs. He's safe. He's going to have a chance to keep working this out, even if next season isn't a playoff one.  I think we'll do better next year than we did this season. There's something being built here.
    • The NBA is a very fickle league. Kon is one of the hottest rookies in years and beyond just his play on the court he is a very steady competitor and that translates to the rest of the team. That has been a glaring absence with the culture of this franchise through the bulk of the LaMelo Ball years that's just being completely blunt and realistic. The enigma of LaMelo Ball is he is entering year 6 and still either red hot or ice cold. We need him to find that sweet spot. Logic dictates the Hornets will want to see this core again next year. But the clock is beyond ticking at this point. It's put up or shut up. Especially considering what the Thunder managed to do recently. I'm hopeful they can keep these wins rolling in and get some much needed playoff experience under their belts which will help substantially.
    • I think as long as the Panthers are competitive with Canales they should keep him. Pepper needs to repair his/the teams image as a place prized free agents aren't hesitant to consider. Just dont do any crazy poo for a few years.
