Things over the past year that Smitty has done that don't correspond to the Gettleman style

Recommended Posts

Could you post the video of him washing homeless people feet as well. Or getting signed shoes from all the players to give to underprivileged kids. Or how about video of him at his football camp for kids who can't afford to go to football camp. There are a lot of those videos as well.

one good deed is great. Everyone enjoys a good heart felt story and is touched for that moment they read about it. Very few take up and say "ya know what? I'm going to spread that message from this day forward on how to be a good Samaritan!"

one bad media piece, TMZ, ESPN, TWITTER, haters, and the like weigh in and the story goes viral in an instant. Very few people, sit back and go "but he signed for an hour and a half after everyone else left the field at training camp!" they say "Did you see what Smitty did?!" and the gossip starts.

Here's an example...

Smitty has his little throw down on the field with Talib.  Then the interview. Talk of the NFL! Front page of the nfl.com site. Big talking point all over ESPN, FOX Sports, NFLN...

Smitty piece airs about him donating his shoes after each game, AND to add to it, piece airs about Smitty washing feet for Samaritans Feet. MAYBE a mention in passing/going to commercial to finalize a small Panthers blurb on one of the above named sports stations.

The negative stories far and away over shadow the good. Business wise, that's bad. (Mkay?)

Now, Smitty being gone sucks. but its over now. he's on a new team. Moving on... was the OP's post needed? Not for a lot of people. But, seeing as there are still lil infighting posts within the fan base... It's obvious that some can't even take the idea of the OP's post in stride and be like "Hmmm could be".

Oh well... here's to the future, of Smitty's career, and the Panthers Franchise. I'm on board with both of them.

This speculation is getting comical. Gettleman would cut smith because of something he said about mark Sanchez? Or for getting in scuffles with opposing players (which he has been doing for 13 years now)?

We will never know the full truth, but there has to be more to the situation than that.

Smitty was my guilty pleasure when it came to the Panthers.

I loved his antics, just viewing the OP's videos brought a smile to my face.

I will undoubtedly miss him being on the team next year.

Having said that, Dave Gettleman gives me the impression that he is very analytical and doesn't make many rash decisions.

So there will be no "Happily Ever After" ending to this Panther story.

Based on what little I've seen of Smitty's and Gettleman's tendencies, color me NOT surprised.

And the "fan base" continues to shyt on the greatest Panther to ever hit the field.

Are you functionally literate? Or did you just pick out 4-5 key words from his 1000 word post, just to make your own (wrong) assessment?

Blah blah BLAH! Smith is chippy, fiery, most of all EXCITING. You take that guy off of the team last yr & I PROMISE u we don't even make the playoffs! (Don't waste your time debating me). It may have ultimately been the reason he was let go but for the exact same reason he was picked up the VERY next day so....

    • Wanting that type of play and being okay with paying $55 million a season for it are two entirely different things. If Bryce were to become the same player Purdy has been, then he would surpass my expectations of him and I'd be okay with him as our QB of the future (and again, I've long been one of the bigger anti Bryce people here who doesn't think he is capable of being our long term solution). But in no world would I be okay with paying him THAT kind of money, paying an average starter elite money is just a terrible decision.
    • I don't think they can overcome that mistake. Hell Lance was a hiccup compared to this. He isn't going to be able to carry that price tag and now he is going to have to do just that. Lol. The NFL is so dumb sometimes.
    • So, one could say that T-Mac is quicker than someone of his size should be and while he might not be quite as fast as Evans in the 40, he's more athletic than Evans. If only someone, anyone, could have seen that in his tape and mentioned that on here, hmmmmmmm In all seriousness, hearing he tested in the 89th percentile in that drill at his size is crazy impressive.  Just tried to look up the times of the top WRs in the league right now, most don't show at time for that, but I did see Chase ran his in 7 seconds flat. I honestly don't know how true this is, but I do remember seeing one breakdown of his tape and the person said he has quiet and efficient feet.  That he's really good at using the minimal steps possible to make his cuts and because of that, it actually makes him look slower to the human eye because you don't see all the quick chop steps that the guys like Tyreek would use in their running. I'm still in a state of disbelief that he's a Panther and it might not fully hit me until week 1 and I see him out there making plays for us, still feels like Goodell is going to just be like, "YOU GOT PUNKED!!!  hahaha, he's a Cowboy now, suck it"
