Bill Voth says no tackle in the first

I agree with him. After the top OTs (which almost certainly will be gone) the guys left all seem to be about the same talent level as guys who will be available in the 2nd or even 3rd round. The value at WR should be much better. Unless a top 10 guy drops all the way to 28 I think we'll go WR in the 1st, and then land an OT in the 2nd/3rd (possibly both).

Yeah, I think if the Panthers pick a 1st round tackle, it'll be a surprise like Bitiono. The 2nd and 3rd tier WR's are more enticing to me than the OT's going at that range. Talented players from other positions that drop are also attractive.

One thing we know for a fact, that we are the team of the decade. You don't draft the GOAT, the best MLB of a generation, and the best run stuffer and one of the top overall players of an entire class in three years and NOT be the team of the decade. No no matter who we pick, it will be the right guy, and he will be a part of greatness.

This seems to fly in the face of folks who think that need will be big factor in determining Gettleman's BPA philosophy. Sure he could take a tackle or wide receiver or corner or other position. But it will be based on who they think is the BPA not the BPA at a position of need.

I know some teams use need as a part of their weighting system for a players when grading them.

But really all that means IMO is that if there are two players with the same score need would give that player the edge.

No doubt many teams use need as a big factor and that included us under Hurney as well.  I just don't think it as big a factor with Gettleman.  Honestly I could see him taking a TE or a DE if they were the BPA.  He knows that after a few years of constantly doing BPA regardless of position you build the overall talent of the team.

    • For this reason, BY will not play against the Packers. They will find a reason for him to stay on the bench again.
    • Well he quickly deflected the question about Rico's "almost 7 YPC." He is very polished and he transitioned well to non-answers and side steps. I can see why a guy like him was able to pull the wool over on guys like Tepper.
    • 31st rushing D and 8 carries by Rico is coaching.  Rico is easily the best offensive weapon right now and it’s not really close.  *literally everyone knows Dalton is washed, horrible and shouldn’t even be a backup QB.   Drive 1? ZERO carries.  Coaching.  Drive 2 - Rico was playing great.   Did Canales lean into that or go for “balance”? Coaching. Drive 3 - ZERO carries.  Coaching  Drive 4 - 1 carry and opted for Jimmy Horn gadget rush (you can’t stick  with the Horn repetitive gadget runs each week and that’s not a better idea than getting Rico going)  Drive 5 - basically Dalton heavy as the half expired.  I don’t need to watch a game to know it’s coaching.  The gameplan wasn’t about setting Rico up to go off on a trash rush D.  It was bullshit harmony balance of the rush and the pass and making Hubbard feel good.
