Did we miss out on a diamond in the rough?

I listen to the Bills radio show on my way home from work just to get a football fix until the season starts. They open up training camp tomorrow and they were going over what to look for. One thing that came up was that rookie tackle and 7th round pick Seantrel Henderson is going to open camp as the 1st team LT. Granted Henderson was a first round talent and fell due to off the field issues, but it makes me wonder if we missed out on a chance to pick up a real steal at the end of the draft.

Side note, Cyrus Kouandjio is opening as their starting RT.. he was another one guys here wanted

We missed out on Josh Gordon. We missed out on Lavon Brazil. We missed out on Vontaz Burfict. We missed out on Alfonzo Dennard. We could do this all day.

We drafted a rough diamond named Brandon Hogan and he never got his act together. We drafted Greg Hardy and it worked out well, until it didn't. It's just a crapshoot really.

There are always going to be guys you wish you had drafted in hindsight. Not saying I will not look back at what could have been but camp hasn't started yet. Last year we had two UDFAs (White and Lester) and two UDFAs on offense (Bell and Chandler)

start and/or significantly contribute to our football team. I know Bell brings out the worst in posters including myself but he has overachieved.

It's a week before training camp and I am about 2 1/2 glasses into a moderately priced nice tasting bottle of Spanish wine. I don't plan to panic until 15 minutes or so into the second session of TC.

    • Aho…come out and prove me wrong boy.
    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
    • I have no doubt the Canes will come out like gangbusters, huge bounce back from game one - my only concern is Freddie, if he lets in a couple of softies and Dobes stays hot we could be in trouble.
