Chances Bersin could be our number 2 at WR

We are all in agreement that Cotchery and Avant are pretty much possession receivers.  Yet as I said a many a time before, I always like my second option at receiver to be able to take over a game if need be.  We had the luxury of both Moose and Smitty playing for us for a short time.  Bersin made some great catches this past Sunday, and he's shown the ability to get some YAC.  Not only that, but he has the strength to break tackles.  Do yall think he has what it takes to make a run at 2?

I'd like to see how he does against starting DB's before I make any decisions about him. There's nothing wrong with possession WR's, they're the ones who move the chains.

Rivera wants to give Underwood, other young WRs more reps Firday.

Hopefully that pushes Bersin into getting some time in the first quarter, and the other guys play the second half.  I also would like to see some more of King by the way.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with possession WRs, it's just my football belief that my number 2 guy can get you at least 4-5 breakaway games a year.

Exactly. Muhsin Muhammed made a very good living being a physical, possession receiver.

Bersin *is* a possession receiver, he's not a burner (4.6 forty) but he has good hands and a large frame (6-3/210). He is also a good blocker. Bersin will be thrilled if he makes the 53 man roster. His first two seasons he wasn't able to do that.

When the live rounds start flying I'm sorry I don't want to say Bersin is my #2 WR! He's got solid hands, solid size, and can run solid routes but in today's NFL, ecspecially in the NFC, I'm not putting that much faith in an UDFA from Wofford who didn't make the 53 last year! Don't get me wrong I love Bersin and want him to make the roster as the 4th or 5th WR, come in on certain situations and spell guys. However to put him at #2 at this point in his career is simply ludicrous, ecspecially considering the caliber of some other #2 WRs in this league! I like the kid but no thanks!

I consider possession receivers to be guys that mostly catch the ball and that's it.  Bersin may not be a burner but from what I can see, he has ability to do some things after the catch and he can make the difficult catches.  I hope he gets some looks against Revis.

So far he's looked good against lesser talent.  I want to see what he got against starters, especially one of the best in Revis.

Id like to state if not for the contract, cotchery so far has been a minor disappontment. Bersin is your average trihard white WR, panthers are gaining a return in their investment. Funny I thought avant had a 50/50 chance at making the team before TC, now he looks like the #2 guy. Cam just needs reps with the whole group, then role would be better define too.

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
