Cam not interested in pay-as-you-go Kaepernick/Dalton contract, wants huge money upfront

You do realize the Niners went to the NFC Championship game with Alex Smith before Kap came in, right? Dalton has had the fortune to be on one of the most complete teams in the AFC with a top defense and great offensive weapons like Green and Gio and a top o-line. And what does he do with all that? He goes 0-3 in the playoffs, throwing 6 interceptions. Yeah they're definitely much better than Cam.

Who needed Green and Gio or the 25 receivers and tight ends the 49ers have when you had Seyi Ajirotutu and Legedu Naanee on offense and a defense with guys like Dan Connor and Antwaun Applewhite? No excuse Cam, no excuse. You are no Andy Dalton!

Does anyone notice that it always just so happens these "breaking news" stories always break on gameday before a game?! Last week it was Glazer saying that Harbaugh wont return next season playoffs or no playoffs. Remember the cards game last year how a story broke that we already started to interview coaches to replace Rivera?! And now this..

The stupid ass media has cried wolf one too many times in my book, take gameday "breaking news" with a huge grain of salt.

They do it because they know everyone will be paying attention.  No reason to break news on a random Tuesday or Wednesday when the majority of the intended audience isn't thinking about football as much.

I believe it.  Newton will not get a deal like Kaepernick and Dalton did.  And honestly, Cam is worth whatever.  He is an All-Pro caliber QB.

To be honest, Cam seems like the type of guy that cares about winning more than money. I don't think he will put us in a bad situation.

But who knows, I could be wrong.

I've always said this. He has more money from endorsements and he probably wants a fair wage because in the end having money is great but having a couple Super Bowl MVPs is better

Cam has breathed life back into this franchise.  He's been underpaid to this point.  I don't mind a serious upfront commitment.  It's sort of like giving him some back pay for everything he's done for us cheaply.

My only concern is being handicapped to a point where we can't put a team around him.  I know Cam wants to win, and it appears that he'd like to remain a Panther.

Even if he does limit our ability to put weapons around him, we have to keep Cam at all cost.

That's an average of 16.25 a year. On top of whatever salary he would make that season. Yeah, that's a ridiculous amount of money.

You can spread out the salary for longer in a longer deal and have a cap hit on Cam of $17.50M or even less every year, which I would say is pretty much nothing compared to what QBs are getting these days. Rodgers' deal is structured like that, $62.5M over 3 years guaranteed and $110M over 5 years, with that spread out mostly to the last 2 years. His cap hit is low the next 3 years and then the last 2 it's a little higher but there's no guaranteed money so they could restructure to give him guaranteed and lower it or they could cut him with no penalty.
