Clinton Portis on WFNZ yesterday....

Before I switch over to airplane mode, I thought I'd mention this little nugget. Did anybody hear Clinton Portis on WFNZ Primetime yesterday? He is a great listen and is a weekly guest with Moose on Kroeger's show. He seems to think Cam will test the free agent market because of the state of our franchise. Mentioned St Louis/L.A. Rams as a great fit. Discuss.

I have been wondering the same thing lately. You put Cam on most teams and you instantly have an upgrade and much better team. That includes every team in our conference. He is surrounded by junk. We have about five quality players on offense with him . Although our running backs are quality they require lineman to open holes for them. We don't have that.

Gettleman has this offseason to surround Cam with some more talent or I think Cam would be silly not to test free agency.

On the bright side if most of the offseason talent involves a revamped offensive line my whining like a little b$&ch is all for naught.

He is retarded.

You don't think Cam notices the talent that Dalton, Capernick and Luck has surrounding them on the offensive side of the ball?

We are not being honest with ourselves if we do not look at things from an outsiders point of view.

In the end I think he stays, but this offseason will require some touh decisions and retooling of talent.

The state of our franchise is first place in the NFC South coming off a divisional championship.

If Portis looked around he'd see that franchise qb's rarely leave the team that drafts them. On the rare occasion both parties split it's typically because of chronic injuries.

Yeah, St. Louis. Because if there's any model for how to build around a quarterback and win championships in the last decade, it's St. Louis.

Why is everyone in a rush to watch Cam leave?  Cam is going to get PAID here.  The business side of things is that we have to get the cap squared away.  In the next two years (Which Cam is UNDER CONTRACT FOR!!!), we're going to free up a bunch of cash for him, Luke and whoever else.

We're having a bad year.  This is the NFL, it happens for most teams.  How often to Franchise QBs leave teams?  What are the circumstances?  Do those circumstances match?  Also, why would the Panthers let Cam walk?  That's why there is a franchise tag, which he would be stuck with regardless.

Cam will be a Panther, unless he completely implodes.  I don't see that happening, even with the weak supporting cast this year.

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
