Will this be the off-season that we use resources on the offense?

WOW!!

Those contracts aren't off the books yet. In fact, I believe some of the cap hits go up.

I've mentioned it before (but correct me if you think I'm wrong):

Our dead money next year is really only Smith at $4 mil.  Beason, Anderson, Godfrey, and Gross will be off the books which accounted for $20 mil in dead cash this year.

Also, just transition guys on contract for 2015/16 without considering re-signings, releases, FAs, or any transactions and we've got 122 mil on the books for next year and only about 5 mil in dead money.   J Stew has a ridiculous contract...I still can't get over that.  We should have plenty to work with factoring in the bump in cap and that we left carry over.

I've heard conflicting reports.

Best guess: We won't really know for certain till next year.

Lots of folks think Charles Johnson will be out.

Yet we had enough resources to get Luke, Star, Kony and to give Hardy 13+ million.

We have resources. We just choose to use them on defense.

The same 'resources' we used to get Luke, Star and Ealy are the ones we used to get Cam, Benjamin and Trai Turner.

And Hardy would have been a good decision if he hadn't pulled his stupid stint this offseason.

According to overthecap (which is always wrong but whatever) next season the offense is counting $63 million against the cap, the defense just $49 million (over $20 million of that is Charles Johnson alone).

We'll have around $20 million in cap space, which is not very much at all when you factor in signing draft picks, adding guys just to fill out the roster, practice squad and leaving a bit of workable space for the season. It's most likely another offseason of signing bargain basement guys on cheap deals.

Also, the only players that would add any noticeable amount of cap space by being cut are CJ, Thomas Davis, Kalil and Greg Olsen. The best (maybe only) option I see is to try to get CJ to take a straight paycut, not another restructure. The good news is we don't have any big pending free agents (outside of Hardy) and a huge amount of cap space opens up in 2016.
