Hail Mary or a 63 yard field goal?

Which is the higher percentage play? Very few kickers have the ability to drill the ball 60+ yards with accuracy, plus Gano had just missed from 25 yards closer.

On the other hand, you throw a hail mary to KB, and maybe you get PI, or maybe KB comes down with it.

I know hindsight is 20 20 but what is the right call?

Only five kickers have ever successfully kicked a 63+ yard field goal (record is 64), two of which came in Mile High where it is a lot easier to kick field goals.

I'd wager far more players have got lucky on a Hail Mary.

Hail Mary gave us better odds.

For coaches it is not hindsight. They should already know those numbers as it relates to their players.

Problem is this coaching staff does not put the time in to know situational probabilities based on their players performance.

I will see if I can dig up those numbers for you.

Field goal. There have been a few 63 yard field goals made in recent years. When was the last time there was a successful Hail Mary in the NFL? Keep in mind Jimmy Graham's Hail Mary last week was completely unsuccessful because he wouldn't have caught it in a million years if he hadn't flung the 49er to the ground.

    • I turned to the NFL Network and they are playing the Wildcard Game against the Rams I think we gained a lot of respect around the league we hung in there for a while into the 4th Quarter 🙂
    • Does anyone know for sure if the game tonite will be on HBO max?  That is where I watched the last one and only access I currently have- I am in SE NC and no broadcast stations carry the games.😖
    • take a  look around the league at other young Qb's such as Drake Maye , Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix , CJ Stroud  & Caleb Williams who at the time like Bryce Young they also were drafted by teams with a losing record .the only difference with these Qb's is after joining their teams with a losing record they led those same teams to a winning record in a very short period of time .it's simply what you call a game changer & or elite Qb's & then take a  look at  the other side of the coin you have Qb's such as Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Justin Fields  & Anthony Richardson also like Bryce Young all first round picks who instead of winning either did not play or led their teams to a losing record while playing  Bryce Young who has an overall record of 14-30 & wildly inconsistent & never in the history of the NFL has a Qb 5'10" or shorter had a successful carrer as Qb in the NFL  if anything history is telling you exactly what ?..just saying
