Still in for Rivera~

I realize that I am no doubt in the minority for still believing in this coach.  I won't even say I am the 'silent majority'...but I believe in Ron.

Here is why:

I don't know if the play calling is his fault or Shula.  It seems to me that this is a critical area that needs to be better addressed.

Alot (everyone?) has jumped on him for his handling of playing for a field goal.  I will watch the game again - but what I saw was:

A kicker that hasnt missed under 50 yards.  Close to automatic as you get.  Why NOT trust your kicker?

As Cam says...hindsight is 50-50...   :)   Anyway...I didnt mind the play calling.  I think he would have been flambeyyed (s?) if they threw a pass and it was intercepted.

I remember last year.  Very well.  Many fans (right here) wasnt happy with Ron and the same old witch hunt was on until they started winning.  I refuse to believe he is not the same guy.

Consider- consider what we all know.  Handcuffed by the cap, poor play, injuries, and a thug getting paid doing nothing for you..how would any of us play the hand dealt to Ron?

I am all about the blame game and wow -there is alot to go around.  Oline, Shula...Gettleman to an extent (misfires on who he brought in this time...)...Cam (love him....but he hasnt been the same this year...Shula's fault?)

Anyway- I don't want Ron's head.  I think he can lead us to where we all want to go.

(nerd alert...this makes me want to say "I believe in Harvey Dent".../shrug).

Stockholm Syndrome

Definition

Stockholm syndrome refers to a group of psychological symptoms that occur in some persons in a captive or hostage situation. The term takes its name from a bank robbery in Stockholm, Sweden, in August 1973. The robber took four employees of the bank (three women and one man) into the vault with him and kept them hostage for 131 hours. After the employees were finally released, they appeared to have formed a paradoxical emotional bond with their captor; they told reporters that they saw the police as their enemy rather than the bank robber, and that they had positive feelings toward the criminal.

You go, Fanboy !!!

Rivera chose to run to the left hash on 3rd and 5 to set-up his kicker where his kicker wanted to be set-up. 46 is not "automatic" for Gano at that distance, but the odds were strongly in his favor. And guess what, regardless of what some people may believe, the running play could have succeeded.

Some will forget that Rivera's QB has been sacked or intercepted on fully 12% of his pass attempts this season....

There is no doubting Ron Rivera was handed a team that was short on talent, however, situations like that really show what a HC is made of,good or bad..

Did I expect Rivera to take this team to the playoffs? Not really Did i expect him to have a winning season? Probably not. Did I expect him to have this team ready to play each week and be competive? Yes,but he didn't

Rivera not only failed to prepare the team for games,he also failed to make game time adjustments and went into a conservative shell when the game was on the line.He has stood by an let Shula,a proven inept OC, call plays and schemes that never work but they keep getting repeated regardless.

I could go on and on in my evaluation but the bottom line is,I think Rivera is probably a good DC but just not suited, or meant to be a top rated NFL HC..

I'm with the OP...I know it's not as fun as writing O line in every thread or wishing for losses but this is going to take more than one season to fix the cap issue, and last year was same coach and it wasn't too bad, hell it was riverboat baby...

We need the team that played in the second half of the ATL game...not the one in the first half.  I'm looking forward to kicking the Vikings butts and getting on roll.

and not showing up for games is BS, yeah our team sucks right now but I'm still with them ...and always will.

You sit on a lead if your up two scores. You can't shut down your offense like he does and put it on your defense. You've got to score points in today's NFL. The game has changed. That brand of football will get you beat. Much too conservative.

He could save his job if he gets a competent OC but unless he's made to do so I see more of the same

The only time during Rivera's tenure that this team has looked like it was going somewhere was the last 3/4s of last season. Prior to that, the team would just win a handful of meaningless games late in the season when they were already out of contention to make the end record look a little less hideous. I had hoped Rivera had learned his lesson and turned the corner last year. This season has killed that notion. He's riverted right back to his old conservative, scared shitless self.

    • Thin sliced roast beef, provolone, and roasted bell peppers on a toasted sub roll.  At least one thing is going right today. I don't trust anyone who's never put Bugles on their fingertips to make witch fingers.
    • But yeh,  Bryce is the only problem on this sorry excuse of a team. You could put Tom Brady on this team and we would still suck . Worst part is Tepper and his various band of clowns have been trying to build a competitive team for 7 freaking years and are no closer now than when it all started.
    • Regardless of the trade and where he was picked, Bryce actively created deception. He wore a hoodie to the combine and was 15 lbs heavier because he packed on water weight because he didnt weigh near 200 lbs. He didn't participate in drills in a wide open 4 way, really 3, QB bid. Then there was all this hype over the S2 test that he had been practicing that we've never heard about in the draft process since. Does anyone think it was an accident Stroud's score on the S2 was released? Stroud said forget the score, watch his tape. Wonder why. There was a whole bunch of shady poo going on surrounding Bryce pre draft, and I for one, find it all a little too convenient.  Just my opinion, but he was a used car salesman that used some armor all and a wash n wax and maybe a set of white walls then schmoozed his way at dinner with Dave and Nicole and sold them that he was a super savant.  There was a whole lot of BS swirling around the BY hype train and he was a full fledged participant. Frank didn't want Bryce, he wanted Stroud. A new head coach does not pick a QB he has to go design a brand new offense around unless that guy is a generationaltalent, which Bryce was most definitely not. He picks the guy that best fits what he does and that was Stroud. This was Dave and Nicole's pick and they fuged this team like they've done over and over again since they've been here. They fell for use car salesman Rhule, then used car salesman Bryce and company. And the fans got stuck with the 4 years of payments on a car less reliable than Al Bundy's Dodge.
