Gettleman's Scouting Department

Let's give Gettleman some credit here. He's still building his scouting department, and it is probably somewhat in a makeshift condition. But the pro scouting department seem to have hit a home run with Remmers. He's a perfect fit.

Couple that with some of the undrafted players we've found, how can you fault Gettleman? We would've never found serviceable players at these positions under hurney.

Thankfully there's more to being a GM than first round draft picks and deciding whether to keep your aging superstars.

Here's to you, nippleshorts!

I do think Gettleman finds players others miss decently, he still missed on harper/decoud/avant, but this proves that Rivera has no eye for talent as the only reason Remmers or Norwell got a chance to play was because of injuries. This does make me wonder what other talent Rivera has missed out on.

I'd call Harper the biggest missed, followed by DeCoud and then Avant. However, as evidenced yesterday Harper and DeCoud would look way better if the front 7 had been able to replicate their 2013 success this entire season.

Typical overreaction thread.

One caveat before the argument ensues. If there is ever a time to over react it's today after a 41-10 curb stomping of the most annoying team and fan base in the NFCS. The Saints can eat poo and die.

Do you think Rivera mismanaged the clock yesterday?

The announcers kept going on and on about wasted time before halftime yesterday, but I think the panthers played it perfectly.  They gave themselves a chance to score before the half without leaving any time for Brees to answer.  If it weren't for the late hold on kalil, it would've been successful.  How many times have we seen Brees lead a 30-45 second touchdown drive before halftime?

The saints were going to get the ball after halftime and we couldn't afford to give them a chance at that kind of momentum swing.

There's also the matter of the wasted timeouts.  If we had them then it wouldn't have mattered to begin with, but we didn't.  This once again goes back to piss-poor clock management by Rivera, something he hasn't improved on at all since he first got here.

But back to that final halftime drive, lol, Rivera completely and accidentally stumbled into scoring position there.  He was about to go with his patented 'sit on the ball and don't dare try to score even if you have a very good chance of doing so without consequence' schtick.  They didn't even have a play ready AFTER all that reviewing of Olsen's catch which resulted in the loss of down from Cam's pointless spike of the ball.  That's just a complete lack of focus highlighted by his piss-poor clock management and uber-conservative coaching style.

I really wish the huddle could find a happy medium between "Gettleman is a genius!" and "Gettleman is ruining this franchise!" on a week to week basis...

The Huddle is different people with different opinions. Its not one being flip flopping.

That was my thinking too, I don't want to give brees any time to score and come out in the third with the feeling of scoring again. That would be another panther choke job. Normally id like to remain attacking, but not this time. Just bleed the clock, don't worry about risking a FG for the risk of a int/fumble into brees magic.
