Is this team in position to cut CJ this off-season? ?

You have to also remember CJ is solid against the run, you cant just find guys that have the pas rush ability as well as not get pushed around in the run game. CJ is not as flashy as other pass rushers but he is solid at all phases. We dont have any other DE currently that are of that mold so we rotate them. I think we keep him.

This board will freak out when we take a d lineman in the first round this year.

Shoudn't...

If you follow Gettlemen's career....that is the type move his organization would make

I think odds are high (near certain) they Hurney Magic CJ's deal AND draft DE early

You've gotta consider the 2016 to 2015 difference in savings v. talent. I think CJ and Kalil's names may get tossed around, but they aren't moving anywhere. Our dead cap is 20 million freaking dollars less next year. No need to continue to just banish all Hurney contracted players..some make sense for another year or two.

DeAngelo will need to go but we can carve out enough to not warrant just cutting CJ for really no reason (We're not really that cap strapped anymore). Makes no sense IMO.

We are actually very cap strapped still. We have like 20 some players under contract next year that count for almost 120 million dollars...not good

I understand we're cap strapped per se but compared to other teams it's around the middle of the league in that regard.  We've got 20 million in dead money off the books after this year which is huge and that hindered our ability to do much just as much (maybe more so) than a handful of bloated contracts.

Notables on contract next season:

TD will get 9.9 mil

CJ 20 mil

Kalil 11 mil

Stewart 8.3 (He's not really cut-able)

DM-We owe Godfrey 3 million and Smitty 4.

Those are the big ones with 5 guys accounting for around 50 million in 2015/16.  After that though, things have cleared up and most contracts are fairly reasonable.

Also, no more Beason, Anderson, Gross, or Hardy sucking our money away which they accounted for 25 mil (Hardy 13 for his tag and the rest DM).  I can see DG working with Kalil, CJ, or TD on maybe a restructure if he needs some wiggle room and maybe an outside shot at a pay cut for one of them if they oblige.
