2014 Panthers Rookie Grades

How people can be so critical of a rookie WR'S who has every record for rookie WR on this team. .

Grabage time stats?? How many games were the Giant's or Bucs in?? Are OdB and Evans numbers grabage as well??

I also like to state the fact that there was a "guess KB stats for the season" thread. And none of you had him at 1,000 rec.yards and 9 TD. Now all of a sudden those numbers aren't good enough? ? Really??

I'm pretty sure people are just saying they'd give him a B rather than an A and pointing out fair critiques.  Not that big of deal.

Brown reminds me of Smith, tabbed to return kicks/punts in his first season. Although Smitty did much better with returns, he only caught 10 passes the 1st season. I hope Brown turns out to be the surprise success at WR that Smith was.

Psssst...... Steve Smith had a higher drop percentage than KB this season.

Yeah but Smith has 'old man hands' now. lol

I do hope KB puts in a lot of off season work on eliminating drops. I still cringe when I think of that perfect pass he couldn't handle in the Falcons game.

It's a testament to Benjamin that we're already holding him to the same standards as a veteran receiver, when you consider the situation he was thrown into and all the struggles we've had this season, he's done a damned fine job and he's only going to get better

I really don't believe that people are holding him to vet standard. His route running and blocking is not up to a vet standard. The standard that his critics are holding him to is a WR standard, a.k.a. "Catch the damned ball!"

Reminds me of all those teen/kids complaining/bitchin cause they got a new iphone, but not the white. Or even better- a brand new nissan, but wanted a bmw. Terrible human kid - " my parents are the worst evar!!!!! id rather die than be caught talking on a regular iphone while driving a pos nissan"

Same people expectations were 600-700 yards and 5 TD'S... A B for out doing expectations seems right???

Some of you don't seem to understand that kb is a late first round rookie. If the draft were done over, he would be a top 15 pick.

Not only would he be top 15, bene could have gone day 1, Norwell, turner, and ealy would have been day 2 picks and Philly wouled have been drafted. Simply put, this is what a future super bowl caliber class looks like.

KB =

7th all time in rookie WR receptions

17th all time in rookie WR yards

12th all time in rookie WR TDs

Those who would grade KB at anything less than an "A" lack perspective.

But he dropped some passes, yo! I would give Focault an A because anytime u ask an UDFA from Canadia to start on the OL and your QB can still stand upright at the end of a game is a good thing.

    • Going from the 32nd to 27th ranked QB is a huge achievement indeed.
    • I do expect the offense to fall back to earth next year if everything stays the same.  It is kinda like how the Panthers and even now the Chiefs won in the past.  Winning many close, coin flip games.  It never lasts from season to season usually.
    • Biased is one way of putting it. The NFL is an entertainment product in the strictest legal sense. Although I might yell it out on game days, I do not believe the games are outright “rigged” meaning there is one team that is going to win no matter what happens. It’s impossible. There’s too much variance in the game that can prevent a truly rigged game from happening unless there was cooperation from many parties involved. What I am thoroughly convinced happens is that the NFL and referees “manage” the games towards certain outcomes. And that is done primarily through referee crew choice however I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more going on behind the curtain.  The NFL uses the officials statistical tendencies to call penalties is to keep games close to drive user engagement. For example, If a crew tends to call more false start penalties, and there’s a game between a heavy pass offense where the NFL would like to manufacture a close game where it might have potential to be a blowout, then they’ll assign a crew that will slow that offense down and keep the game close.  There is an insane amount of marketing and now sports betting money that is married to the NFL economic ecosystem. To think this whole system is fair when the referee union has no outward accountability structure for poor performance is just naive. It’s closer to the WWE than outward appearances suggest, but it’s not a fully scripted outcome either. So for those who say “stop watching” if you don’t want to watch a “rigged” game, it’s an entertainment product. You can still be entertained by it, even if it’s not as fair as a truly merit based sporting event.
