Rivera makes it seem like their are two coaches on defense. McDermott is exceptional hopefully we can find a good guy to replace him if it happens

I really dont think losin mcdermott would be that big of a deal. Might help, couple of the defensive schemes against seattle made no sense. Dropping addison in coverage instead of havin luke and td back made no sense to me. Idk just my two cents. Ron can cover that spot

Any team that runs a Zone Blitz will do that from time to time (the Steelers do it plenty).

 

Like any defensive tactic, sometimes it works.  Other times it doesn't.

What I would hate to happen is for McD to leave, and Rivera to take the attitude of "That's too many coaches leaving, we need some continuity, so Shula should stay."

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving what McD has been able to do with this Defense the past 4 years and I would love to retain him, but I fully trust Rivera in all things Defense. We can say what we will about his chops as a HC, but that dude can build a D and scheme with the best in that regard. Whoever he picks to replace him I will be confident in.

There are a couple of decent DB Coaches potentially out there if the need arises.

 

There's Mel Tucker (former Bears DC) and Donnie Henderson (Bills DB Coach is Rex doesn't keep him).  Bears DB Coach Jon Hoke isn't as experiences but I think he's well thought of.

 

Of course, the more likely result is current assistant DB Coach Curtis Fuller getting promoted.

 

Worth noting that on the team site, Wilks already has the title of "Passing Defense Coordinator".

His D wasn't impressive overall this year.....the big plays we gave up to Seattle is something his D did all season really.....just a small stretch late against really bad teams where it didn't
