Voth reviews the Gettleman presser

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Panthers are going to be heading to the playoffs an awful lot under gman.  The guy has truly special talent evaluation skills.  Draft picks and UDFAs have been stellar under him with a mixed bag of very low cost free agents (understandable, a small contract should equal low risk, low reward).

As long as we keep a solid QB under center we will be able to restock annually in the draft and eventually clean out enough money to sign some bigger names to fill in the gaps.

How could you possibly keep Richard Rodgers...ST led to losses, a tie, and the Cam Chancellor thing was embarrassing and almost a compete disaster. The unit was inept..

Yeah, Ron seems to think it was 100% lack of players. I'd say 70% of our special teams disasters were coaching related.

Unlike former GMs, I've always thought Dave's pressers were full of information.

I think DW will come back on a cheap 2 year deal being paid more like a back-up than starter.  I doubt he wants to go anywhere else and he's made his money.  If I am wrong, he will be gone.

The RB position scares me to death with this team. Stew looked awesome and is more than capable of being an elite back, but you can't trust him.  He's missed so many games and I question his toughness and if he is one of those guys that just wants to collect a paycheck.  If he goes down next year, I'm not sure I'm ready to let Fozzy carry the load in an offense where running the ball is so important.

I think Dave has learned that he needs to watch his words more closely and I think some of his comments re: coaches and players currently employed display this.

Can someone please explain how he's viewing the cap? I'm not sure how the cap raising hurt us.

I think he said this because the extra $5 million gave the Panthers the ability to go $5 million more into debt and this team needs to go the other direction.  It was a confusing comment.

More cap room drives up salaries. Yes, Carolina also gets a boost but that doesn't make a marginal player (the kind Carolina was looking for) better, just more expensive.

As I understood the analogy, he's talking about how when someone has maxed out their credit cards and suddenly gets a raise on their limit, it's very tempting to just go ahead and max out all over again.

Gettleman is saying we don't wanna go that route.  We wanna be responsible and pay down our debt (so to speak).

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
