Panthers in talks w/Josh Norman about extension

You guys realize that good free agent CBs get 8-10 million per year deals all the time. If we got him at 4-5 it would be a bargain.

Exactly, deal would likely be between 5-6 million a season. Might be able to go under that because of it being one season of major success, but not much lower though.

Tops would be 4 mil a year.  We have a lot of others to take care of also.

If Norman really had the potential to be one of the best, if not potentially the best corner in the league, that would be an absolute steal for us.  Old man Revis (of course he's probably not that old, but I think his best years are behind him) is getting paid 12 million this year, though it's technically a one year deal.  I think Norman could reach a Revis-like level.  I wouldn't pay the man 12 million, but right now, I think 7-8 million would be fair.

There's a team option on Revis' deal that if picked up would pay him $20M next year. Outrageous. Hell Alterraun Verner is making $6.5M/year and he's a shaky #2 at best. $7-8M would be fair if we knew he would continue playing the way he did as a starter this season. Too much of a risk though given that it's such a small sample size. $5M/year would be good for both sides I think.

    • You know, there's something about this whole JAG thing that really just drives home the idea that to some folks, these players aren't real people, just names and stats.  Of course, it goes beyond sports. We're a sad, jaded species, us humans.
    • I hope we get no featured games, or only one if that's still a thing Don't like having to subscribe to a service just to see the panthers play a single game, i'm looking at you peacock Football is made for sunday afternoons Word
    • Yeah, it's just dumb. Everything is year to year. I never understood how anyone could stay engaged as a Kentucky fan or duke fan as duke became a one and done factory like Calipari made Kentucky. The thing I liked at about UNC is that we primarily focused on recruits likely to play multiple years. We'd have pur occasional one and done but most of our pros still played multiple years. And the days of the Stackhouses, Wallace, Jamison, Carter, etc. playing multiple years is just over. And now you have your role players entering the portal every year to test the waters elsewhere. I don't blame them for looking out for themselves but just personally speaking I'll run out of interest quickly trying to get to know a whole new roster year over year.
