The Annual Ricky Proehl Tour

i would think so because you never know how the draft will turn out and someone who was thought to be "out of range" for you could be sitting there, it'd be nice to have actually scouted him...

isn't that kinda what happened with Star? most thought he'd be out of range and we "wished upon a falling star"

In order for any scout, or anyone else for that matter to truly evaluate the talent of a particular player, one must see them in person. If he visits with the alleged "best" WR in the draft, he an then see the dropoff of each player after that. If he sees these things with his own two eyes, then he doesn't need to rely in anyone else's word, and can also judge the disparity between "the best" WR and a middle round "flyer".

I love Proehl in general. Phenomenal player, fantastic human being, and probably an even better talent evaluator/coach at the WR position that there is. We are blessed to have him.

Yeah echoing what others have said, never know how the draft will shake out. Guys are drafted higher or lower than their projections all the time, and something like Star's heart condition can cause certain teams to back off a top talent while others will pounce.

If a guy like Parker slides anywhere close to the 20s, always the (not likely) potential of a trade up as well. Especially when we can essentially bank on having an extra 3rd rounder in 2016 for Hardy. Again, not saying we'd trade up because it's not GMan's style...but say for shits and gigs a top WR like Parker slides to the 20ish range...it would cost a 4th or so to jump up and grab him. Not saying it's likely before I get flamed, but the team is just doing their due diligence for any possible situation.

    • Rags lost again. All is right in the hockey world.
    • He’s responsible for two drafts classes. The first was one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seem. The second one is showing a ton of promise. I’m somewhere between skeptical and hopeful on Morgan.
    • I'm a big fan of Dan. His ability to find productive players deep in the draft will pay off.  I'm going to give him 1.5 draft classes right now, because I do think it's a little unfair to evaluate his first year when he got the job in January, especially when we went into that draft not having a first round pick.  XL and Brooks are still big time TBD players. Both still have incredibly high ceilings, but both have also given us legitimate reasons to have a lot of pause. Trevin Wallace, Chau Smith Wade and Jatavion Sanders have IMO outplayed their draft position early in their careers. That's a great thing. He also got Coker and Demani Richardson as UDFAs that year. Given the situation we were in, I really don't mind the gamble on the high ceiling guys. Still may work out, still may not, but if you made a checklist of ideal situation for an NFL GM to walk into, ours was near the bottom of that list.  Every single 2025 pick is contributing in some way. That typically doesn't happen. I am absolutely blown away by this draft class 6 games in. Even the best GM's miss on occasion, and we can't expect Dan to be 100% on drafts moving forward. Ryan Fitzgerald was an excellent find as well.  Comparing our last two drafts to the previous few is pretty shocking. Can you imagine this season without our Rookies? It would not be good. Additionally, this roster only has 6 players with more than 6 years of experience, and two of those are specialist.  The next step is equally important, and still very much TBD. We have to avoid Cap Chaos.
