the first 5 picks for the Panthers:

1st R #25 - OLB/SS Shaq Thompson. We already have plenty of threads about how much we love Shaq. For ex, Jeremy started this one:

2nd R #57 - DE Nate Orchard, Utah. Won the Hendricks Award as the best DE in college football and was named to ten All-American teams after he had 18.5 sacks last year, #1 in the nation in sacks per game.

3rd R #89 - DT Grady Jarrett, Clemson - We need to start grooming a talented DT to succeed Dwan and Colin in the rotation at DT. Jarrett's performance at Clemson:

2014: 12 QB pressures, 10 TFL, 73 tackles (1st Team All-ACC)

2013: 14 QB pressures, 11 TFL, 83 tackles

2012: 10 QB pressures, 8.5 TFL, 49 tackles

(also available at this pick were WRs Phillip Dorsett, Breshad Perriman, Jamison Crowder, Justin Hardy, etc)

4th R #121 - OT Laurence Gibson, VT. Prototypical left tackle that is still raw. The Panthers have met with him and scheduled a private workout. You can read more on him here:

5th R #153 - CB Doran Grant, Ohio State. Add to our Ohio State collection of players on the Panthers. Grant is a physical corner who ran a 4.44 forty at the combine. Full-time starter each of the last two seasons at Ohio State (opposite Bradley Roby in 2013). Cousins and old friends with fellow Ohio St speedster Devin Smith, who I imagine Grant had to cover plenty in practice. Smith had this to say about Grant:

"Doran Grant is one of the best corners in the Big Ten, if not the nation, in my opinion. He's very fluid with his hips. That's my cousin as well. He's a competitor and he's very, very strong and he's fast as well."

Here's a feature the Columbus Dispatch did on Grant, writing: "Grant has emerged this season as one of the pillars, not only among the defensive backs, but also on the team as a whole."

    • thats fair.   I was beginning to think rookie punter was in the plans
    • Sam Martin   CARPunter#6 Panthers re-signed P Sam Martin to a two-year contract. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Martin’s deal is up to $5 million. Martin joined the Panthers last season on a one-year deal and wound up booting 56 punts for an average of 47.2 yards per punt. Martin is a 13-year vet of the league who has spent time with four different franchises. He landed a career-best 48.2 percent of his kicks inside his opponent’s 20-yard line last season.
    • Surprised CB is that low.  19th is odd spot. For many recent drafts, teams only felt there were around 14 first round players.  So to many 19 is just an early second and doesn't hold the value of a first.  If you go off- the smart path of LT, QB, edge, WR, CB, etc. Whatever your OG, Safety, ILB, etc needs to be a difference maker, that's the key point. I've said the 8th best edge is better than the 1st safety. Same for QB and even WRs. You should 100% factor in position value.  MHS you've been wanting a FS, let me tell you its super difficult to be a difference making FS. You're just sooo farrrr away from the action and the end result most times. If you're in the play, defense made mistakes in order. Now to talk out of both sides, maaaaaann that white boy from Oregon....I thought he crushed the combine and honestly that alone made me rethink "is he worth 19 now?!?!" he's now in the discussion for me, but still below others.    Plus I feel TE is vastly underrated in value terms. But looking at the last 20 years of TEs in the first, its down right bad. You're better like X10 better drafting one in 4th or 5th.
