Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera thinks Stephen Hill ready to help

I know the huddle loves this guy. But Ron Rivera went to bat for Nate Chandler, Byron Bell, Mike Shula, Richard Rogers, Deangelo Williams, and Armanti Edwards. He replaced John Kasay with Olindo Mare. I respect Ron as an X and Os guy but I take his comments on personnel with a grain of salt.

Ouch

I call a smokescreen. Why is this information coming out now? Stephen Hill, who is on vacation, all of a sudden now knows enough of the playbook to make a "difference" on Sundays.

This information seems all to convenient to come out now a month before the 2015 draft.

They sent him to play in Japan to work on his skills

Take away hills time in the nfl. Then say he had the same combine, proday, and interviews during his first draft process.

Bonus he stays at his current age and he's entering this years draft- I'm fairly sure some team would still pick him in the second.

He's currently only 23 years old, that's still a pup even in nfl years. He's great insurance, if dave gos all D like I'm worried about.

How do we fit all these guys on the roster?

Wr1: Benjamin

Wr2: Jennings?/Cotchery

Wr3: Ginn

Wr4: Brown

Wr5: Hill

Doesn't leave much space for a drafted rookie, even though we'd all love one.

And none of them play coverage on ST, meaning only 4, or possibly even 3, would be active on game day.

Also Sione Fua, Legedu Naanee, Seyi Ajirotutu and Antoine Cason.

And just last year at the same position: Tavarres King and Marvin McNutt.

Yall act like hill is a rookie he played against NFL level DBs and had success against them.... so please don't act like he is a rookie and never catch an NFL pass..... last year was a mental year for him to really understand routes.

Yeah... I'm pulling for Hill, but I'm not betting on him ever being more than what he was in New York. I definitely think he has improved under proehl, but Ron said the same thing last year leading into the playoff games.

I just think he was asked about him and gave his usual positive reinforcement stuff because it's one of his players.

    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
    • When we didn't trade him to the Rams or the Bears (I believe the Bears said they would take one of Brown/ Burns/DJ Moore) we should have just signed him and kept him.  We should have traded him to the Rams obviously and we should have kept DJ and traded Burns.  We made all three wrong choices with Burns lol.
