This is camp life in the Gettleman era, where being good in prior seasons doesn't guarantee you a spot this season.

I think that's more up to the coaches than DG.

And Bell/Chandler are a testament to whether being good or not matters regarding getting a spot.

I hope the coaches have learned their lesson, it was very costly. Ask Cam.

To be fair to Lord Zod, Clausen still looked terrible in those "highlights." They found nothing but throws to WIDE OPEN receivers, and most of those came out weak and with poor spiral. He had good mechanics and the mind to work on a college level but his arm was not "plus." That alone would have sold me on him not being a pro capable qb if I'd seen it back in the day. Of course I hated the pick when it was made but I wanted Colt McCoy with that pick and he wasn't too much better.

Hell he probably IS the best fullback in the league when healthy. He doesn't have a history of injury problems either... poo just happens sometimes.

Dude was as instrumental as anybody to our success in 2013. Plenty more plays than the ones above and he laid out some pretty big clutch blocks in crucial moments. That game winning TD pass to Hixon against the Saints for one. Tolbert chipped the LBer (or safety, can't remember) who had a free run right at Cam just enough to throw him off balance and let Cam get the pass off.

Hes not even a traditional FB. Hes not good at blocking. Thats what we need before any running and catching stuff. Thats extra. Tolbert is good as a RB but FB needs to block. Its like icing on a carboard box, calking it a cake

If Tolbert's 2.5 million salary is the difference between signing or not signing a late addition like Dwan Edwards was, I would cut him in a heartbeat. I wouldn't cut him just for the sake of it though, like last year when we cleared up 9 million and then just went into the season 9 million under and didn't use it.

Tolbert was hurt.  I really don't see how his spot would be in jeopardy in any scenario.

 

I think some people may need to be reminded how effective he is in goal line situations.  He's also key on special teams, as evidenced last year in his absence.  Not to mention a great guy in the locker room.

Fullbacks aren't supposed to be big guys that can truck people over to get the first/td in short yard scenarios? And I assume you mean we need a blocking FB, well he can block too.

The reason we had $5 million in rollover is because we restructured CJ's contract during the season and freed up about $5 million in cap. We actually used up most of our excess cap during the season.

Offseason cap numbers that you usually see for teams are based off of the top 51 rule. During the season you have to add in players 52 and 53, the practice squad, and IR. This is the reason that most teams go into the season with a some extra cap space.

For example we have around $7 million in cap space right now according to the top 51 contracts.

Two more roster spots plus the practice squad will count for around $2 million. That leaves us around $5 million, which you can easily use a chunk of that on IR during the season.

We should get back some cap space after June 1st because of DWill($2m), but I don't see DG spending it just to spend. With that being said, we should have enough of a cushion to leave ourselves the option of going after a player if someone was to become available during preseason cuts.

Most likely though it will be used to extend some of our own players over the course of the next few years.

Accounting?  No

 

I just take the time to Google. 

 

I'm sure there are aspects to it that I don't understand, but the basics really aren't that hard if you find a good source to learn from.
