Sports Illustrated says Panthers and Broncos have had worst offseason in NFL

So maybe the Falcons and Jets would have the best records in the upcoming season? We will wait and see.

This is what kills me about the Jets.  They might have upgraded their defense immensely.  Granted, but in the end they are still going to have Geno Smith QBing their team.

Seriously, our offseason aside, the 49ers have had one of the worst off seasons of all time.

But yeah it's clear the Panthers have upgraded their roster so I don't know how that can be viewed as a negative. Well, I do know how and it's called lazy journalism.

I can tell you how:  Dave Gettleman doesn't do it the way the talking and writing-heads demand.

Ergo, he does it "wrong".

Nevermind back-to-back NFC South Championships, DG obviously doesn't know what he's doing.  The big-brains in the media keep trying to help him, but he keeps ignoring them.  How dare he!

Only reason to ever read SI for the NFL was Dr. Z.

Since he had a stroke and can't talk or write anymore, SI is dead to me. Doesn't matter if they offer free copies of Madden or FIFA or some other crap to subscribe.

After FA and the draft, one publication used their "formula" to rank offseason success and failure. I'm not linking the article but SI says we had the worst offseason while the Falcons and Jets have had the best. It's a topic of discussion on local sports radio this morning. I'm not so sure if I agree. Special Teams was a serious issue last season that lost us games. We have made significant upgrades that should have a positive effect on special teams play. Our WR core has improved. Left tackle is essentially a lateral move. We played an entire season without Greg Hardy already so from 2014 to 2015 DE is a push unless we see a jump from the young group opposite CJ. RB group should be improved with a healthy JStew and Tolbert and a younger compliment in draft pick Cam Artis-Payne. With what we have done, I'd rank our offseason at around middle of the pack in that 18-20 range. I wish LT was taken more seriously and I wish we could have seen Cam's contract signed, but the later is out of Nippleshorts' hands to a certain degree. But in the end our team improved. If a team improved, how can the offseason be worse than a team like the 49ers.

And this is how it's done folks...

After we win the division again the story will be that 'the Panthers persevered despite making a mess of the 2015 draft', and they'll ignore the contributions from any and all new players. If that won't fly, due to undeniable contributions from the draft picks and FA's, they'll just pretend they never gave us a bad offseason grade.

and redraft all our rookies in the top 2 rounds but never give us credit.

    • Yep he made the comment " I dont know what they were doing out there at that point" in the press conference. Let's be real they all got paid but they also know his system suppresses there offensive potential.
    • Yup the casuals on Facebook ive gotten 85 laughing or angry emojis so far for pointing it out.  The amount of them throwing a fit because the canes were booed is insane
    • Why are you so fixated on yards? Even if yards were a good judge of QB play, his low yardage totals in some of those games were partly a function of drops (looking at you Xavier Leggette…).  I’m not advocating that Bryce was elite for the last half of last year, but the eye test certainly supported high level QB play for large stretches. He made a lot of high difficulty, put it on the money/drop in the bucket throws. He converted on 3rd and 4th down, kept drives moving, and put the team in position to win games. And it’s not on him that the defense blew it late after he led game tying drives, Leggette dropped a game winning TD, or Chuba fumbled the ball in OT. We could have finished the season close to .500 with wins against 3 playoff teams including KC and Philly during that stretch largely due to Bryce’s play.    Has he sustained this level of play long enough to deserve an higher ranking? No. But for judging based in that stretch alone, he would. But whether he can perform more consistently at that level or build on that, and thus earns a higher ranking, remains to be seen.
