Godfrey considered the front runner for Atlanta's starting free safety position

I will never get why we tried Godfrey at Nickel. He wasn't good but he wasn't god awful at safety.

This^^^

Godfrey was horrible at nickel and should never had been placed there.  Even healthy I don't think he could have played good at Nickel.  Coming off injury?  He was an automatic 7-12 yards. Even in trainning camp it was obvious he was horrible playing Nickel.  He was doomed to fail.   Collin Jones played 3 times better at that position.  That being said, he wasn't as bad a safety as many made him out to be before his injury.

I don't think he is anywhere near as bad as Nakumura at safety.

However at this point I see him as a little better than Sherrod Martin. (which isn't good either).

If he was playing for another team I would wish him luck.

Since it's the Falcons however............

I don't recall Godfrey looking terrible in Meeks' system... or maybe I was distracted by how bad Sherrod Martin was?

Regardless, the combination of missing time due to injury and being on the streets will either give him some intense motivation, or it will put him in position to fail. For our sake, I hope he catches the motivation later, with another team.

    • Why would we not be contenders? As long as Bryce plays like he did when he came back, we absolutely can be contenders...that is...   if the defense plays better... which is why adding someone like Ramsey when we have a QB on a rookie deal and can afford it makes sense IMO. No one thought of the Commanders being contenders last year or the Texans the year before and so on and so forth. Top-end QB play, especially for a guy on a rookie deal, changes everything in terms of timelines. Regardless of what this board thinks, I hope the front office is willing to he aggressive in thks window we currently have with a rookie QB deal
    • Would absolutely love to have him. I dont think he would require more than a 5th rounder. The biggest thing with his contract is the amount of guaranteed money. As long as they can work out and scenario where the Panthers aren't on the hook for a lot of that, I think it's a no-brainer. The Panthers can come up with $20M at the drop of a hat with restructuring Moton's contract, so there definitely isn't an issue from a money perspective. Jaycee paired with Ramsey along with Mike Jack would give us one of the best CB groups in the league. The one caveat I see is that safety still remains our biggest current weakness. We need a starting caliber S more than CB, simply put. But adding someone like Ramsey would be amazing as long as the compensation made sense. Ramsey could also play for FS snaps also. I also dont understand this nonsense about being seasons away. We have a QB on a rookie deal who was playing at an elite level to end last season. Within reason, now is absolutely the time to make moves like trading for Ramsey.
    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
