I'd think that Todman would get a look as a back up punt returner. I know he does kick-off but if Ginn goes down for some reason, I'd rather have someone back there that can catch a kicked ball. God bless Bersin for trying but we can't have a guy out there that fields punts from a knee like he's an outfielder playing it safe.

I like Bersin as a person and at receiver he catches everything, but there is literally no chance he makes the team. I have a feeling they may offer him some sort of job with the organization though.

Now that's an intriguing proposition.  JR stays happy because he's employing Bersin, and we don't have to fear his punt return attempts. I like it.

I actually got to where when Berisn was back to field a punt, I would walk out of the room. lol

I would yell loud profanities anytime I saw him back there... Guess I need to work on that, walking out of the room is much more therapeutic! Haha

Punt returners became a bit clearer at OTA practice today, and kept the same rotation throughout practice.

In order...

Ted Ginn

Brenton Bersin (Don't shoot the messenger)

De'Andre Presley

Damiere Byrd

Obviously, Ted Ginn is the favorite to win the starting punt return position. He has proven effective there in the past for the Panthers.

For me, the most interesting prospect here is Damiere Byrd. During rookie camp I noted the Panthers would probably be taking a look at him at punt returns. South Carolina Gamecock fans were quick to point out the fact he had never attempted punt returns in college.

None the less, the Panthers appear to be giving him a shot. And with his quickness, why not. Any hint of daylight and Byrd could be in the end zone.

Byrd looked pretty comfortable for a guy that had never fielded punts before. I saw no drops on any catchable punts. Ted Ginn did drop an easy punt. Go figure.

It will be interesting next week to see how this unit is shaping up.

As long as Byrd gets a shot in game situations, then we will see what hes made of.

Please end the Ginn at punt experiment. He failed when he was with us two years ago. I don't want to see him fail again and don't even mention bersin. I hope Byrd wins it.

Don't agree about Ginn.  Career wise, he has been a good punt returner.  He didn't have his best year with us, but it wasn't bad.  And no fumbles the entire year he was with us.  He is probably our best punt returner since Steve Smith.

Obviously we're all disappointed to see Bersin on the list for punt returner.  But he will probably still make the roster because he is a decent and improving WR.  I just hope Ginn doesn't get hurt and they put him back there again.

Team average yards per return:

10.2 11.3 7.6 10.5 6.9 11.5 10.8 8.5 10.1 5.9 10.8 4.6 8.9 10.8 8.3 10.9 5.5 10.2 10.5 8.0

Ginn's year is the 10.5. How anyone can call 0.4 yards within the third best we ever had "failed" is beyond me. But i guess it is easier to have an opinion than to check the facts.

I was surprised to see smith at only 10.8 and 8.5.

I'll give you two guesses for the 5.5 year, but you are only going to need one :).

    • Not totally inaccurate, haha Except that kid wasn't as excited as I was.  I was yelling louder, and more, and running around the room in circles until I almost passed out from exhausting and was trying to catch my breath for a good 10 minutes because I'm way too old to be doing that, LOLOL Oh, and I tweaked a muscle in my shoulder from all the fist pumping I was doing too. For as awesome as that pick was for me, it really screwed me up for a few days between my shoulder and lost voice (Wrexham securing back-to-back-to-back promotions Saturday afternoon contributed to that though too).
    • Getting Pierce jr isn’t forfeiting the pick they just had 2 1sts this year.
    • Full disclosure and the real reason.... I'll be seeing my Nephew in basically one month from today, and while I've gotten him stuff from my other teams the past year, I hadn't been willing to saddle him with Panthers stuff yet, that's now changed lol. So if the jersey would get to me before I see him, I'd get that and him his first Panthers onesie/shirt so I can get a picture of us together in them. If it wouldn't get to me by then, I'd just wait to get the one I prefer.  So yea, my rush is really just about trying to get a picture of myself in it with my Nephew in Panthers gear too.
