People act like this dude is a stud. He is taking up a roster spot for someone who has more tools and more talent.  He  wouldnt make 95% of teams rosters today. He can't get separation and he doesn't have speed. He is a great story to tell and he wont be missed. He doesnt even play special teams anymore, because his IQ couldnt handle when to leave a ball to bounce or slide after it like he is in a baseball game.

I want those 10-20 reception going to a person  who might can take it to the hhouse.. Jmo

​Who doesnt want a guy that can take it to the house?  They arent that common and they usually arent WR4s.  The problem is that the WRs have to be able to catch the ball before they can take it the house, so that makes it tough to just pick the fast guy.

Don't know why it matters so much that a 3rd string WR make the team or not. And then again, there is a Bersin in every franchise. It makes the fans happy, I guess.

No team in the league keeps a player on roster just to "make fans happy".

Only an idiot would believe that.

​Saw a lot of comments just like that about him last year. That dude keeps tripping on his own foot once on the field. Last year should have been the year to step up when we needed receivers the most.

Considering that he made the roster for the first time, made some key catches, and held his own in the punt returner job (which he has no business doing in the future), I'd say he stepped up relative to his role.

If he's good enough to make it this year, good for him.  If someone like Hill or Byrd shows enough to supplant him, then the team is better for it.  The fact that this thread is about to hit 20 pages over a potential fourth or fifth string WR is baffling when camp is still a month away.

Regarding Bersin:

Every team's situation is unique but looking around the league, the guys in comparable depth situations are like Bernard Weedy, Junior Hemmingway, DeVier Posey, Marc Mariani...even with some better teams, you're looking at Jeff Janis, Kevin Norwood, Matt Slater, Kamar Aiken, etc.  (Even for fantasy buffs: there are some names you've probably never heard of) 

 

For the Panthers: Out of 177 receptions by wideouts last year, Bersin had 13. 

 

RECEPTIONS

 

1-KB (73)

2-Cotchery (48)

3-Brown (21)

4-Avant (21 before released)

 

--Then you had:

5-Bersin (13)

6-Webb (1)

 

Now, factor in:

-KB maintaining/increasing looks

-Funchess being our 2nd option, higher looks than Cotchery IMO, ridiculous ceiling

-Brown's role should likely increase given what we hear is the coach's positive perception of him and how they used him last year

 

So...That could easily be around 85%+ of our receptions especially given Brown kinda moved into Avant's role when he left.  If Bersin does well, he could get around 20 reception IMO (25-30 would be generous).  The situation with Cotchery, Bersin, Byrd, Hill and Boykin is a good one and it will give us a decent 4th/5th option to place along with Brown and Ginn.  But bigger picture wise, it's a very minimal role anyways.   

 

Out of those 13 receptions people are basing him off of last year, 2 were pretty good 3rd down conversions.  I distinctly remember one being a nice leaping grab on a high thrown crossing route...he's actually more athletic than will be credited for.  He sucked balls on PRs but that was a weird situation all around with STs.

So like said if Hill or Byrd can develop into that or show they can do that..  That's what I want..  If they can't then we're stuck with Bersin again and hopefully get that player next year...

      Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.

      Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
