Brenton Bersin continues to impress

with the team being high on him:

WR1 Kelvin Benjamin

WR2 Funch

WR3 Corey Brown

WR4 Cotchery

WR5 Tedd Ginn Jr.

Do we keep six receivers on the active roster, with Bersin being number six? How many of these dudes end up active on gameday?

No Cotch will be the odd man out. Both him and Bersin are the same player. Yet Bersin is younger. I've said it before and I will agian  Bersin has one of the better relationship with Cam and Cotchery has the least.

I've been thinking we may keep 6 this year given the abundance of WRs (12) on the 90 man roster, though that might only happen if Webb is released.  I assume KB, Funchess, Brown & Ginn are all locks.  It's going to be a very tough battle for the last 1 or 2 spots.

Cotch & Bersin play a similar role as possesion receivers.  Obviously Cotch has the added plus of being a veteran to coach the rookies.  It may be hard to keep them both.  I'm really not sure whom to route for.  If Hill does well and/or if Byrd shows a lot of promise (meaning he might be picked off the PS) it's going to be nearly impossible to keep both Cotch & Bersin.

I really doubt Cotch brings as much to the locker room as everyone assumes he does. Last year maybe, but who wants to be mentored by an older guy who isn't very good? I'm sure the recievers look up to KB more now and Proehl brings the veteran experience.

It was hard not to react harshly after the playoff loss to Seattle..thats just apart of what comes with losing any game..You begin to question EVERYTHING.. I do believe that the play where Bersin was the number one target, got jammed up, so Cam had to look the other way to Dickson and threw a pick 6, played a huge part in people having doubts about Bersin.. People STILL wonder why on earth he was the first option on that play..But i think those people were just so upset about the outcome of that play, that they over reacted.  They replayed that play in their mind over and over and tried to pick apart everything.  But the truth is...if Cam wouldnt have thrown that pick, that is a play that everyone would have completely forgotten about.  How often does Cam have to go to his 2nd and 3rd options?  Do we criticize the first option when that happens? No. Its just apart of football.  You cant always throw to your first option.  Especially against one of the best defenses in the game.

i'm ok with bersin over cotchery. with ginn and funch we've got two new high quality weapons being inserted into the mix; if corey brown is looking as improved as reports suggest, you basically have KB, Funch, Brown, and Ginn as verifiably talented, dangerous weapons that can start in any position (assuming Funch is worth his poo.)

if this leaves bersin as a rotational guy at WR5 who can continue to excel at his craft and make cotchery an afterthought i'm excited by that.

if someone had told me half a few years ago that we'd be debating which talented receiver to cut from our team i'd have kicked them in the balls for trying to melt a decade of bitter ice encasing my heart.

I have no problem with them keeping Bersin, I actually liked him at the beginning of last year and had high hopes for him.

i do have a problem with him ever being the 1st or 2nd option on any kind of crucial down, and I don't trust this coachin staff enough to not do that again.

I'm fine with him as wr5 just keep him away from special teams and don't make him the primary read ever.

You are basing the idea that Bersin should never be a primary read off of one play.

    • Interesting topic.  I have had a few NFL friends and one told me that he could not work out or train unless the activities and facilities were approved. AI: In many NFL contracts, certain activities are restricted, and injuries sustained during those activities can lead to the voiding of contract guarantees or even the entire contract. These restrictions often include dangerous activities like skydiving, rock climbing, or even engaging in contact sports like boxing. Additionally, injuries sustained while working out at non-team facilities or during personal recreational activities may be classified as "non-football injuries," potentially impacting the player's compensation.    Having said that, I question the reason the person filming this was not helping.  Secondly, the decision to put it on social media makes it seem a bit prearranged.  I do not think this would violate his contract, but I do think it is a bit stupid on his part in that he could be injured.
    • Doesn't make it right.  And as you put it, you wanted to ban him from being country, which is essentially policing who he is as a person lol  I get protecting the "asset", but banning people from living their life is crazy. Russell Wilson likes to play helicopter pilot.  I would deem that WAY more dangerous.  Those things scare me.  I still wouldn't want to keep him from doing it if I were his boss.  I would just try not to think about it, haha.
    • Could do better could do worse. I've seen some people very indignant over bringing him back and I can absolutely relate to the sentiment. But it's just in a backup role. He's also a good locker room presence and an effort player so for a 1 year rental in a year where we aren't going to do much it's fine. This is a development year. And there will be options if need be at the trade deadline. Besides at the end of the day we all knew a signing like this was around the corner after how drafting Mark Williams ended. He should have been our franchise center for the next several years. I don’t put that failure on the Hornets.
