The Stupid Double Standard in the Media

It's funny, when the stats are against us people are quick to point them out and show how much better other teams are or players  (Cam vs Kap), but now that we have the stats, suddenly they don't really matter anymore.

We're averaging 29.9 ppg (3rd best) while only giving up 19.1 ppg (6th best). We are 5th in rushing yards and Cam is 2nd in total TDs, We give up the 4th fewest yards (322.8), have the most interceptions (15), tied 1st for most fumbles recovered, 1st forced turnovers, and 2nd in sacks. Also, we're tied for first in turnover ratio. And most importantly we are 10-0.

We are undefeated and are top five (if not #1) in almost all the major statistical categories, especially on defense and 3rd in the one that really matters on offense (ppg). Yet we still have a ton of people that don't respect us. 

In every other situation they pay an insane amount of attention to stats but in our case they choose to ignore it. Their justification for why we're not that good (even though our record, stats, and if they actually watched our games they would see otherwise), is that we have played easy teams. While ignoring the fact that many of the teams they think could beat us, have lost to those same "easy" teams. 

Anyways, I could rant on and on about this, but hey, I embrace it, our team embraces it, and our wins are that much sweeter when we prove all the "experts" wrong and show how much of dumbass' most of them really are.

Mainly because we are still a small market team, despite our success. If we had several seasons strung together like this we would get more media respect. We have for the most part been a up and down team the past several years, but I feel we are trending upward starting this season. Super bowl or not, we are gonna be up there for the next few years. But me, like half of the people on here, just ignore the media. Let's quietly build this powerhouse in uptown Charlotte and take the NFL by storm.

This.  No one cared about the Pats until Parcells came to town.  They'd endured a decade of irrelevancy leading up to that.

I'm sick of people saying that the Panthers are a "small market team".

Small market based on what?  Let's take a look at Nielsen ratings (from 2013, but close enough for the Huddle):

• Charlotte is ranked #25 out of 210 markets
• Want to throw in some of the rest of the Carolinas too?
  • Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville-Anderson is number 37.
  • Greensboro-High Point-W Salem is number 46.
  • Combine these three DMAs into a single market and we'd be #5 largest market - in between Philly and Dallas.
• Milwaukee DMA is #34, Green Bay is #69. Let's combine those and you're still no higher than #21, just ahead of St Louis.
• Other cities that are considered "smaller" than Charlotte and have NFL teams?  Let's see...
  • Indianapolis
  • Baltimore
  • San Diego (for now, at least)
  • Tennessee
  • Kansas City
  • Green Bay
  • Jacksonville #50 DMA
  • New Orleans #51 DMA
  • Buffalo #52 DMA

More than 1/3 of the NFL's teams are in markets that are even smaller than Charlotte.  That's a sizable enough gap to not continue the myth of "small market" by those who should know better.

Charlotte =/= Panthers.  There's tons of Redskins, Steelers, Cowboys, etc fans in the Charlotte and the Carolinas.  The Panthers fanbase has to be one of the smaller ones in the league (I'd guess bottom 10).  No facts or stats or numbers, but if I'm wrong I'll be surprised.

There are always going to be naysayers and doubters.  Even if we went 16-0 for three straight seasons there would still be contrarians and different opinions.  Once you accept that nothing should really bother you or penetrate your exterior.

"small fanbase" <> "small market". Two totally different things.
