Hidden Truths Carolina Panther Flaws

EVERY TEAM HAS FLAWS. Luckily, out of our entire defense, ours is our freaking Nickel. We've had one bad game(out of the last four) with a rusty but resurgent CJ, Star coming off of a busted ankle, and getting surprised by two early scores from an angry, eager Saints defense. Everyone on that defense knows they can and will play better, and I highly doubt they'll come out like that again.

Our biggest flaws are a sometimes suspect Nickel package, a speed WR that only catches 2 of 4 TDs, and that's about it. People have to nitpick because that's what you do to an undefeated team.

Could we stand to be better in certain areas? Absolutely, but none of those areas is going to be THE reason we don't make it to or win a Super Bowl.

I agree, all teams have flaws.

We have several too.  All is about can a team exploit them and does it fall within something they have the talent to execute.

but, we have always been heavy zone team.  it isn't like we are being forced to play it.  That is the core of what our DC does

Every team has flaws (like mos everyone is saying). The thing is, when your the best, everyone is going to hate you and pick at you. For example, on Around the Horn the were saying how bad the defense is for Golden state. Said things like they are too small not physical blah blah blah. Barely said anything good. They are the best team in basketball by far. But, because they kick ass, people try to pick at them to find some flaw. Let them. Oh, Connor Orr and Chris Simms play with cabbage patch kids.

It has come to the point now where I really enjoy seeing names around here that I remember seeing back in 2010 when I was just a lurker.

We played Drew Brees at home, with most of his offense healthy, and the team needing to make a statement moving forward. This game was the pinnacle of their season and it showed. Move on.

I think JNo did cheat on the one touchdown vs. the Saints. He is probably getting impatient because he hasn't had an interception in so long but he needs to maintain his discipline.

I also think the Arizona Cardinals have enough weapons on offense to bust our zone. They can send Brown deep to stress our safeties then work Fitz and Floyd with that extra space. I really do see them as our most dangerous foe.

Nah, just double Olsen, stack the box and keep Cam in the pocket. So simple that we're really 0-12 if you take away all the points we scored.

Shhhh!!!!!! WTH ya trying to do man. Every other previous teams fanbase new how to stop out O. Do you want to give the blueprint to the rest of the teams on our schedule.

Funny since Bree's had a 31.6 passer rating vs the blitz he used quick passes to beat our zone...

Completely agree. The Saints game plan was a complete gamble. There was never a chance for the DL to get to Brees. Brees knew where he was going with the ball before the snap and took 2 seconds to let that ball fly. It was up to the receivers to be where they were suppose to be and make the play.

They were going after Colin Jones and Finnegan on horizontal routes in man coverage, and they were attacking the safeties deep in the seams on single deep zone. When the Panthers were in cover 2 zone looks they went for the pocket near the sideline between the safety and the corner - betting on the safeties being unable to make it to the sideline in time. Brees made the read on the defense and threw the ball to a spot (not a receiver).

While this game plan is a definite gamble against the Panthers D (Cowboys used the same game plan and it failed), this may be the only way to beat the Panthers. Even if this works well enough to score some points, the opposing team still has to deal with Cam Newton in a shoot out.

This^^. I will also say, I can't see our LBs giving Palmer all day to set back and pick us apart. I mean he got the arm, but as far as mobility , he's no Cam Newton.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
