According to multiple sources, cornerback Charles Tillman has been dealing with a partially torn ACL. Both he and the Panthers have been tight-lipped about his status the past few weeks, but their fingers were crossed that he could return by the end of the season. With Benwikere done for the year, the Panthers may not have the luxury to wait.

Coach Ron Rivera said Monday the team wanted to see how Tillman's knee would respond during Wednesday's practice. Unless it improves greatly over the next 24 hours, the Panthers are planning to promote Lou Young from the practice squad with Tillman likely headed for injured reserve.

Tillman is still a very capable starter but the past few years he's literally been falling apart on the field

I was just about to post this... Can someone please explain why this week would be a determining factor on whether or not to place him on IR? It doesn't make any sense to me. Why are they trying to hurry him back now with 3 weeks left to rest?

Because they need bodies now, not in the playoffs.

They will need a CB  now and will need the roster spot going to IR opens up?

I already asked this question to Voth, will see if I get an answer.  It doesn't make much sense to me, it would seem more reasonable to cut another position and save Tillman's knee til playoffs and not IR him.

I'm not a doctor but, isn't a sprain a partial tear?

I think Voth is completely wrong regarding IR. There's literally no reason that tomorrow's practice would be the end all be all for his status for the rest of the season. If he's not ready tomorrow he could still be ready in a week, or two, or three or four. Thinking Young will be brought up with another move made like Bersin to PS or something else.

Yes, but the way it's being reported, it sounds like a pretty significant one.  Still don't understand tomorrow being a deadline for him to heal though.

I don't believe that.  He doesn't usually guess or use his personal opinion without strong confirmation from the team.
