Steve Smith says that Champ Bailey is the best CB he's ever faced, takes shot at JNo?

This is a ridiculous thread. A nontroversy. Melvin White was the one matched up with Smith in the Baltimore game last year and was eventually benched in favor of Norman. Some of you guys twist players' words like they're in the Da Vinci Code.

FWIW I don't think he's singling out Josh Norman. I think that he's referencing most CBs in the league today. Figured it'd be something to talk about around the water cooler.

But hey... at least we're not talking about OB-GYN? :P

the last CB that legitimately locked down dudes was Nnamdi in Oakland.  He was the last CB that would line up man to man almost all game and shut dudes down.  Revis, Sherman, etc....they all have played in heavier zone schemes.

Then Nnamdi went to a zone scheme and was a dumpster fire.  Go figure.  Football is funny.

But didn't he only play one side of the field? thats what Smith is talking about too, you can't call yourself shut down if you don't follow the guy around to every spot and shut him down

I also remember Norman's first year in training camp. Smith and Norman had some little scuffles if I recall correctly.

You do recall correctly, they certainly did! I agree.

If you don't think he was taking a shot at josh then you don't know Smitty. Especially the part about being average or below average at the beginning of your career which Josh was. He wasn't only talking about Josh, but definitely a shot in his direction.

I also agree with this. No question in my mind about it.

He's definitely throwing shade at Norman. And for those referencing the Ravens game last year. I specifically asked Josh about facing Smitty in that game at the huddle draft party. He said Smitty talked trash to all the DB's all game but when he went up against Norman he shut his damn mouth.

And lets be honest most of Smith's yards that game came off fluke BS plays.

So you feel Nnamdi was better than Revis!?

And I really don't see how you can criticize Norman for playing zone, especially in todays game. Besides the point is to win the fuggin game. Not watch an individual match up all game and see the victor. Teams are trying to score points not prove which guy is better than someone. Fuggin stupid argument.

You people are not reading the entire OP. He's not taking a shot at Norman when he says Champ is the best he's ever faced.

He's taking a shot at Norman by saying he doesn't go to the slot to shut down the NO. 1 receiver. He is taking a shot by talking about being below average for 3 years. He is most definitely throwing some shade at Norman.
