BOA Field Concerns

LUUUUUKE

Recommended Posts

The Belk Bowl was played this evening between Mississippi St. and NC State at BOA Stadium. Why would that be a concern? Well, it's been raining for like a week straight out here. It rained all day today during their game as well. As you can imagine, the field is pretty much slop after the game.

This isn't one of those great threads, just something that should be taken into consideration going forward. Based on the weather it may a dry out a bit in the coming days and forecasted to be dry with a high of 56 degrees come Sunday.

While im sure we have the tip top of irrigation systems, and one of the best ground crews in the league, I still do believe that the field conditions could still play a part in this weekend's game.

Obvious potential issues for both squads, and something to keep an eye on for those watching from home. I'll be at the game, and hope to have a trusted agent texting me throughout for 411 not readily known throughout the game.

So, nothing really breaking here, but even if u casually watched SC this evening you would see how horrible it looked. Obviously with at least 1 hosted postseason game, our field being tip top will be important, and I'm sure our grounds crew is up for the task.

It's been reported on the local news casts that the plan is to replace the sod in the middle of the field. They probably started right after the bowl game ended. They've done it before without much of a problem. And no rain is in the forecast until next week Wednesday or something like that.

JJones said the only sod they're replacing is the midfield logo. But youre right about the rain being over.. Hopefully the field isn't too bad by Sunday afternoon

The field drains well and has a few days to air out. I am not concerned.

I will be happy just to be on natural grass again. Not a fan of that synthetic turf with the rubber nodules in it. Somehow harder on the knees.

And most importantly it seems this year the panthers do not tackle as well on surfaces that aren't grass...

Good thing all our playoff games, including the SuperBowl, will be played on grass. But the SF grass concerns me a little. Plenty of time to get into that.

I am not sure if 3-4 days is enough time for new sod to take root. I remember a Green Bay game in the 90s when the field became a mine field of craters and players got hurt because of it. Linemen were literally pulling up pieces of sod and throwing it to the side before getting set. I believe we lost Dan Morgan for a few games because of it.

    • I know it's only been training camp and one preseason game, but I think T-Mac has already shown his floor to be exactly what I said about him in the pre-draft process. That his floor if he never improves his game, is as one of the best #2 WRs in the NFL, if not even still a low end #1 (i.e. a 25th-ish best WR in the league). I think it's safe to say he's already established himself as our #1, and there are only a small handful of teams in the league where I don't think he'd be their starting #2 WR in Week 1. Bengals (Higgins), Dolphins (Waddle), Eagles (Smith), Bucs (Godwin if healthy), Rams (Adams) are really the only teams where I think he'd be the #3 as a rookie in Week 1.  A few others like the Lions (Williams), Bears (Odunze), Seahawks (Kupp), Commanders (Deebo), where he'd be the 2b to start the season, just because they're vets and/or already have a year or two of experience with their team/QB. And even having said that, I think by year 2, he's better than every one of those players (And no, I'm not saying he's already going to be better than a prime version of Adams, just whatever he'll be at 33 next year), and same goes for Kupp, but that's more because it seems like his body might be quitting on him in a way that hasn't happened to Adams (yet).
    • Well to be fair, Horn not practicing right now to let his stitches heal up from a car accident isn't something that should be concerning.  Sure, you don't want him missing practice leading into the season, but it's one that once healed, won't have lingering affects or fear of re-injuring it, it was just bad luck.
    • Quality backups are absolutely important. This franchise has been plagued with depth problems. That said, there is a little bit of dismay that Mays can't beat out a 1-legged man, and all the talk going into the off-season was how BC would certainly be gone since he had position versatility.  In the end, it doesn't matter too awfully much, as I would be shocked to no end if Corbett makes it through the season. We know what we have in reserve, and that should surely be better than trying to sign random fat guys mid season to try and take over.
