Ryan Clark has a different POV on why Cam is hated.

We are all missing the point. Look at how many people hate Brady, Rodgers, Both Manning brothers every quarterback recieves some sort of hate while others are supportive of them. This is sports. Usually every superstar has their fair share of detractors. Even LeBron has his critics he's one of the GOAT basket ball players and there are a ton of people that do not like him. The point is not to get every person in the world to like or love you its to get them to talk about you and recognize who you are. Cam Newton is establishing himself as a great quarter back. Just sit back and enjoy the show.

Why do we say white culture and why do we say black culture. It's because they are linked.

It's why you hear people call rg3 and RW cornball brothers. It's wrong because they can't change who they are as people just like cam isn't going to change who he is and the background in which he grew up.

So when you hear people say they don't like black culture what do you think that really means? I mean what happened just this offseason with Cam on Facebook posting a picture of him and his buddies after an ATV outing? I'm sorry but this is a bullshit excuse. Educate yourself, step outside your comfort zone.

Race and culture are definitely linked. I spent much of my youth in Oakland, which is largely a poor, black community. It definitely shaped me as a person quite a bit, in some positive ways. I'm glad because I feel like it has made me much more open to other cultures and styles as I've gotten older.

This was the most true and egoless answer. What he feels is really right from experience and an above the world look at things. Instead of what society is pressuring him to say. To pick a side and throw rocks at the wall.

Have liked Ryan Clark more and more when he speaks from an honest view.

Also please don't forget success brings haters. I've been a warriors fan my whole life and the Warriors have been garbage my whole life. I've never heard ANYONE say anything bad about the Warriors.

Now we are the champs and if you read an article about the Warriors on ESPN and checkout the comments, the first few are fug the Warriors and their bandwagon fans and fug Steph Curry that showboating bitch sticks out his tongue when he hits a three.

I'm like who the fug hates Steph Curry so much?

People tend to not hate QB's that are garbage. I don't hear a lot of people like Charlie Whitehurst is a punk ass bitch. Because who gives a fug about Charlie Whitehurst right?

That's where my father was a police officer for a decade. My father also grew up in the ghetto as the only white family in his neighborhood. Got his ass kicked. I think that's probably what made him such a good officer because he was able to remove that bullshit because he lived it and could empathize with things.

lots of ppl are not willing to do that if they've never experienced something different then their own white suburban existence. I disagree with Clarke, I understand what he is trying to say and it's a great conversation to be had but I think he is missing the overall point.

I'll add one more thing. Ryan Kalil stated in a 2012 interview that when he first saw we drafted Cam his initial response was "aww man I don't want this cocky, arrogant guy on my team."

he then said once he met him and got to know him as a person he just got it. He understood where Cam was coming from. Hmmm....

i know and have talked to people that hate Cam cause he is black.lets just say some people i know who are worried about which truck company is better and who have rivalries over that poo make racist jokes all the time. arent afraid to say the n word and make incredably racist remarks

there are a lot of people like that. even my well to do faniky members who own buisnesses and poo are open about it. its fuging real and its fuging retarded people say it isnt about race. stfu dumbasses

edit: obviously not everyone who doesnt like cam is racist.   very very obvious. but a lot if people deny that a large percentage think of this and base their judgment on race. there are definate culture clashes

Culture and race are playing a role and yes culture and race are largely intertwined.

Black culture has brought our society changes in the way of food, music and language to name but a few.

Many of these changes were not always welcomed and tended to be adopted by younger people first.

Cam has quickly become a cultural icon and he is having to deal with the negative and positive aspects associated with that reality.

In a decade or two people will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about.

thank GOD someone said it's not about race. bonus points that it's a black guy. now i no longer have to critically analyze society for bias at the structural level, nor introspectively examine the source of micro-agressions and double standards as they pertain to me or the benefits i gain from them.

thank you ryan clark

I've said this before. In fact it's my most highly pied post.

Cam is black with a personality. It's acceptable to be a black QB as long as you act deferential and boring.

White with personality - great

White and boring - perfect

Black and boring - acceptable

Black with personality - thug

Ryan Clark is hitting on something that could be termed "modern racism". I've been living in this area since the early 90s and I can honestly say I've been around very little old school racism where comments are made about skin color or racial superiority. Right now the vast majority of "racism" is about differences in our culture. Differences in the way we speak, dress, and conduct ourselves. Culture and race are inevitably linked so it's very easy to call someone racist for not liking a culture. It's also easy to cherry pick examples to prove a double standard. None of it is that simple.

Cam Newton dresses different. Not different from the white QBs, different from everyone in the NFL. To be honest it is a little weird to me, if he played for the Saints I'd probably make jokes about it but he's my guy so I support him. The way he celebrates would probably put me outside my comfort zone if he played on another team, but he's a Panther so I accept it. I love TD celebrations, I hated the rules they put in after Smitty torched the league. I just think there needs to be a shot clock on them. Cam can run a little long at times. The towel on head and any superficial bs like it does not matter to me. I think that crosses over a line into looking for reasons to hate a guy. Same goes for commenting on the way he talks or doesn't talk to coaches on the sidelines.

I think we are going to get to a point of diminished returns as we move on from our racist past. We cannot eliminate bias. At some point we are going to have to be at peace with the fact we cannot agree on everything.

Culture and race are linked though.

Yep, and I think that's what Cam was really saying. The culture he speaks about are primarily made up of African-Americans and he is a Quarterback. People don't like the culture "behavior". Well most people who have that culture are African-American. But race is still an issue. That's made obvious when people call Cam thuggish and Johnny Football careless or whatever.
