It's interesting to wonder what motivates people in his enviable position:  you're already a millionaire several times over, so at what point is money eclipsed by some other consideration in making your decision?  For some people, never.  But you'd think at some point you'd be more interested in remaining with a contender, with a team that has a decent chance of getting you a ring.  I mean just to throw out some example numbers, to me if it was $10 million a year with Carolina versus $13 million a year with the Cleveland Browns, I'm staying in Carolina and it's not a hard decision.

In his 4 years in the league, Norman has earned $2,299,000 in salary and bonuses.

So, no, he's not a "millionaire several times over".  But he wants to be.  Which is why I don't have high hopes of signing him to a long-term extension.  (And I don't blame either side for whatever turns out.  Because its just business.)

not sure what you're profession is, but if you're currently making $70k you wouldnt go to another company that would pay you $100k?

Depends. The cost of living between Charlotte and LA or NYC is dramatic. Also, the potential for endorsement deals is better on a winning team than a perennial loser. State tax comes into play as well.  So a smaller contract may actually net you more money.

Norman is not already a millionaire several times over, he makes peanuts compared to other great players. He is closing in on 30 years old in the league and has never seen a big time paycheck/contract. He deserves to get his money regardless who its from, cant say i would blame him for leaving a contender to go to another team for lots money to set himself up financially for the rest of his life and help is family. Thats a tough decision to make, but you gotta understand it from all angles.
