I will say, we don't know the exact terms of the contract last season.  Let's say for easy math it's $7 million a year.

2015 $7 million + 2016: $7 Million = $14 million, plus the next two years ($14 million) = $14 million / $28 Million in 2018

2015: $1.5 million + 2016: $14 million = $15.5 million (Plus nothing guaranteed past this season)

So he kind of broke even these past two years, I'm using easy numbers because I'm an idiot.  I just realized though the guaranteed money in a contract basically comes up front (or most of it).  So yes, in two years, he's lost a bit (from the signing bonus), BUT he stands to make so much more money as time goes on should he play at a high level and remain healthy.

He traded a smaller guaranteed amount for a possible huge pay increase.  You can't blame him.  If he does have a great, healthy year (assuming he doesn't sign a long term deal before July 15), his value only increases.

Josh should take what he can get, use the time to try to get something done, but he also has to realize that his chance at big money will be here compared to life as a 29 year old FA CB.

I'll agree with that. The safest move for him is to take the biggest contract on the table on 7/15 to maximize his earnings. He will have won his gamble by playing out the final year of his deal and not risk being a 29 year old FA CB. He would give up a little bit in potential earnings like $5M total if he continues to be a stud for the next two years, but that is much better than $15M+ he could have missed out on by taking the deal last year.

IMO, no one is trading for Josh.  Two first rounders is only worth trading if you believe the player you're getting is a once in a generation-type player.

Josh is possibly the best corner in the game, if not, at least top 3.  That being said, i also think there's a good deal of skepticism league-wide because he has only been a league-wide sensation for one season.  I also think while he is talented enough to impact a game, regardless of the system he plays in, he excels in our system especially.  All those factors combined, allowing other teams to possibly make offers on him, OR NOT, will open his eyes a bit.  I don't blame him at all for wanting the money, but with limited cap space, no team is going to pay him "best CB in the league" money, and that will bring his agent's demands back down to earth.

I'm expecting it may take awhile, but a long-term deal will get done.

I really hope someone is dumb enough to give up just 1 first rounder and. 2nd. While I think Josh is good he can go ahead and leave and play for a turd of a team. I've said all year he was full of poo when he said anything about wanting to be here. He only wants to be here if he is the highest paid CB in the league and he ain't worth that. Peace out bro.

Now that we got this piece of business out of the way, we can focus o re-signing other guys.

He's the number one priority and the team is still in talks to sign him long term. While I imagine other deals will get done before Josh get's a long term deal, that deal is still a top priority for this off season for the Panthers.

    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
    • it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
