"Scary Interest" in USC S/LB Su'a Cravens

Shaq is a LB and Kam is a S. Kam is also slow for a safety. That's why he plays in the box more or less as an extra LB. Seattle is able to do that because they have Earl Thomas. In the Seattle 3 base, Kam has the same coverage responsibilities as the WLB.

No biggie.

"When you turn on the tape on Cravens, his Combine results become irrelevant. He is a natural playmaker and plays an overly aggressive style regardless of what position he is in. With a switch to safety towards to the end of his time at USC, Cravens is open to a position change in the NFL and will take part in secondary drills at USC's Pro Day.

It is difficult to project where Cravens will land. It all depends on how teams choose to rank him -- he could be a Kam Chancellor-esque safety who boasts great size and intensity to the position, or he could emulate Lavonte David who thrives as a weakside linebacker in Tampa Bay's Cover 2 defense."

Scouts tend to disagree with you. He's not a supreme athlete but he plays with such aggression and fire that it doesn't matter how fast he is on the metrics and statistics side of the ball, and he's a natural playmaker. He's always around the ball.

Umm, I agree exactly with the scouts. He's an OLB or pure box safety like Chancellor. Kam is not good in coverage but he gets away with because he has Earl Thomas behind him. We don't have Earl. No one has Earl except Seattle.

Yep. And Shaq is plenty fast, many said RB may have been his best position. Roman Harper ran a 4.65 40 at his pro day. What do you think he was running last year? He was still adequate (mostly).

Shaq is a LB and was drafted to play LB. He was slow for a safety. He has average long speed for a LB, but has elite times in the agility drills. Cravens has about the same speed as Shaq, but not nearly the same burst and change of direction and we'd be playing Cravens at a position that requires more speed and agility. He's a worse version of Shaq and we didn't even consider Shaq at SS.

Is Roman Harper faster and more agile than Shaq?

We need someone who can post up against Gronkowski in Super Bowl 51.

Actually, we need someone that can cover Gronk AND Bennett...just sayin'.

It would seem to me that adding Cravens would only help. Keanu Neal might help too.

Gettleman's philosophy

1- rush the passer

2- run the ball

3- stop the run

this guy definitely fits the bill for number 3, Rivera likes having a big bodied safety- this could very well be our second round pick boys and girls

Source for Roman running a 4.65? Everything I've seen shows a 4.5 flat.

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
