He doesn't believe he's a gambler.

After redshirting as a freshman, Sanchez became a three-year starter for the Sooners and earned a reputation as a ball-hawk – and as a player who was not afraid to take some chances going after the ball.

After drafting Sanchez last week, Gettleman said: “He’s instinctive, he’s smart, and yes, he’s a gambler.”

But Sanchez believes that’s a loaded word.

“I wouldn’t call myself a gambler. If I was that good a gambler I’d probably be a poker player right now,” said Sanchez, who had 13 interceptions his final two years at Oklahoma.

“I think it’s a little more preparation than people think – my instincts and my ability to dissect things and read things before they happen. I think you get the gambling title when you jump something a little too early and you get beat.”

Sanchez says those times he was beaten in coverage had more to do with sloppy technique than shirking his responsibility and jumping a route. But he readily admits he needs to improve as a tackler, which is a prerequisite for corners in defensive coordinator Sean McDermott’s system.

 

One thing though, there just might be a correlation between getting beat and taking risks. Just saying. The good thing is that he is not only ready to tackle the problem, but also the work and responsibilities that come with making plays in whatever capacity that the team needs.

The fact that he has the confidence to speak up against words preached by the legend himself, shows me he has a strong future ahead of him. That's what you want to see in a DB.

I am not a scout and don't pretend what I think means anything whatsoever but I have a hunch that if any of these guys is to not make the team it's Sanchez. Some of his college footage is really quite bad. He does not like to tackle. It's sort of interception or nothing with him. I hope I am wrong. I am sure I am wrong, but that's just the impression I got trying to find what this guy was all about.

I hope he  plays here for 10 successful years given that though.

He sounds a bit like a recently departed CB of ours a little bit...  I love the confidence, but I hope he can get his tackling together so he can see the field.

The more I read about our draft picks, the better I feel.

He definitely has to hit the weights and become a better tackler. There are very few if any NFL players he can tackle one on one without the help of someone else

If he gets playing time then I can see it but right now he is the backup slot CB and 5th CB. Since he is a poor tackler he offers very little on ST so I doubt he even makes the active roster on game day the majority of the time without injuries which is good because he really needs a developmental year on the bench in my opinion.

If he does play he'd get the 4 picks but give up a bunch of big plays in the process.

To be fair though,  Getty wants some stability in the backfield,  and that's part of the reason why he drafted three corners this year.
